Well, because of this company not sending me a form 1099-C like they claim to have back in 2010 for a debt that was closed (for less than what was owed); I am now having to pay the IRS an amount of $446 to pay back the amount that wasn't reported in 2010 for a 2009 debt.
Turns out that they had an old address, but when I had called they didn't have any of the information that could help me. All they could say was; "we can send out a new 1099-C form to you.".
So I don't have a nightmare of a problem, but if you have dealt with these people, and settled for less than what you owe, if the amount that you owe is more than $600 US, then you may want to keep the updated on the address that you are at. Otherwise, you too could end up owing the IRS money.
