I had a SEARS credit card (actually one of those that they force on you when you buy something). On my April Statement I saw a late fee, and I called them since I did remember that I had paid ALL of the credit cards including this on time. I always pay the full balance way before the due date. I was told that maybe the system had some problem, and it had not gone through! I asked to remove the late fee, and after some time I was told that the account is not eligible to remove that! I was surprised, but since I did not have more time to spend on the phone and the amount was less that 20 dollars I just forgot about that.
Today, I received the June statement and was surprised to see a late fee of 21.43 dollars on my statement. Note that based on their encouragement, I am paperless, and an e-mail is expected to be sent to be for statements. Since I was extremely sensitive especially after the first late fee to make sure all is paid on time, I went back and checked the received statements and I discovered that they have not sent me the May Statement. This is FOR SURE! I called them and again the same story. I asked the guy (who was a kind of Spanish guy) to close the account. However, since this has been SEARS fault and looking at this, I think the first late fee should have been based on a similar situation (hope not a scheme to rob customers!), I decided to follow up the case by officially complaining and following it up to save other people from a similar situation. Just wanted to let all know about this.
