U.S. Bank
Rip off overdraft fees

Well this all started when I got a call from the banks fraud prevention due to mysterious charges to my checking account from Microsoft Adsense. I had that taken care of, which was easy enough since they had already had the same issues with other bank customers as well. I also had the bank deactivate my debit card, and get me a new one to prevent it from happening again.

I didn't get the card for about 3 weeks, as when I originally got an empty envelope that was supposed to have a card in it, so they sent me a 3rd card completely after deactivating that number in case it fell into the wrong hands.

By the time I got the card, it came with a letter that said I owed the bank $120 or so for overdraft fees, and late charges, which was 8 dollars a day. I call the bank, but end up getting the runaround, so the next morning I just go there myself. I talk to them, and they file the reports, since at that time I hadn't even activated the new card I had just received anyways. They put temporary funds back into my account to prevent charges incurring from the bank.

I got 3 letters in the mail from them a week later, stating that all the claims were found in my favor. I figured everything was fine at that point. I still hadn't activated my card, I only had about $12 in the bank at the time, and I didn't really need it right then, but I went ahead and called and had it activated, just so I didn't have to do it later.

The day following that I got a letter saying that my account was being closed out for unpaid fees I had from over drafting my account. I have never overdrawn any account I've ever had. I'm very OCD about book keeping. So I go to the bank, as I've learned my lesson in trying to accomplish anything over the phone. They told me that I owed it because I overdrafted my account.

I showed them the papers from the fraud papers I had recieved saying that they were found in my favor, and the original papers that I got when I first filed them. I also mentioned the fact I had just activated my debit card, and have never used checks. There was no possible way that I could have overdrawn even by accident at the time.

Basically what I have now is a bank that is hounding me for money that I didn't owe them to start with, until they failed to eliminate the charges that were from fraudulent claims in the first place. I didn't receive a call or a bill or anything, just a letter that said they closed my account. Plus they're already about to turn my total into collection and it's only been 2 weeks.

I'm in the middle of speaking with an attorney to get things fixed because the ban refuses to do anything about it. This is ruining my credit, and since I don't have a long credit history, it's anything but helpful.

I don't know if the bank does things like this to a lot of people, but I've had nothing but bad luck with them. Usually they are more than willing to fix it as long as you go in person and don't bother calling them. I would suggest a different bank if you want to keep good credit though.
