I live in East Tennessee. I was divorced three years ago. My sister also was divorced three years ago. I had many problems concerning my divorce settlement and with lawyers. For the past three pears I have had consumer problems with banks, a real estate agency, Household credit, citibank, American Express, Comcast Cable, telephone bills, rent a center, United States Cellular.
My sister has had a lot of consumer problems also. I found on the internet that the lawyer I used for after divorce taxes, etc. And the lawyer my sister used for her divorce are also collection agency lawyers. I still have enough money left to fight these consumer problems and I will continue to stand up against these consumer rip offs of Tennesseans. I know if Congress would just pass a law where consumers could charge $29.00 for every letter they have to write concerning unauthorized charges on credit cards and other rip offs, a lot of these rip offs would stop.
Also a law should be passed to cap the interest rate on charge cards that have too high an interest rates.in Tennessee where there are very few consumer protection laws, the elderly loose their homes and divorced men and women and families are all in financial trouble because of unauthorized charges from banks and credit cards. Thee is also a very high interest rate of 28% on auto loans for people with poor credit. Tennessee has the highest bankrutcy rate in the nation. The reason for this is most people are forced into bankruptcy by these unauthorized charges and high interest rates.
From the other reports I have read on this and other consumer sites, anyone who has a steady monthly income from social security, pensions, child support, etc. Are targeted by every unethical credit card company, banks, etc. I know that the bank my sister uses told a grocery store that her account was closed. This is a store my sister always shops at and she has used this banks for 2 years. She had had a few checks that did not clear but always made good on the checks. And sometimes this was the banks fault for putting an ATM charge on her account twice.
The bank told the store her account was closed and my sister had to pay 200.00 in court costs for this mistake. We need some consumer protection laws in Tennessee and other states where this type of consumer fraud is legal.
