D Gave them $5000 and now I can't get any of my money back. They aren't in the business to give refunds

I started in January looking for a new home for my family. I found the information on the web for a quality home at wholesale prices. I had previously been looking and thought the price was a good price. I filled out the online information and was contacted by Jeff Akin. He and I exchanged several emails regarding my deposit as I was not able to make my deposit until I received my bonus check in March.

In March I signed an automatic withdrawal agreement to have $2500 dollars drafted from my checking account. After much debate between my mother and me, we decided that she needed her own space, so again I contacted Jeff. He explained that it wouldn't be a problem to include a second much smaller home for my mother and attach the 2 together when they were delivered. However, since there was a second home that an additional $2500 was needed for my mother's home. During this time I was also told that since I didn't have the best credit they would enroll me in their credit repair program with Peritus.

I contacted Peritus myself to determine the length that credit repair would take. I explained I didn't want unrealistic numbers, if it was going to take 6 to 9 months then that is what I wanted to know so I would have realistic expectations and know better how to plan for the months ahead. Peritus told me that 9 months was not an unrealistic timeframe. I signed all the papers and did all the necessary homework and mailed everything off to Peritus mid April.

Sometime in late May I contacted Jeff to get a progress report on my account. He didn't know anything but would put me in contact with Peritus. They then explained that they didn't have all of my information and once I sent them everything they needed they would get started on my account. I sent them the remaining information that they had not originally requested, nor had they sent me any type of notification that it was needed. I got a couple of periodic emails from Peritus saying they had sent of another round of letters to the creditors and credit bureaus and once I got those letters back I should forward them to Peritus right a way. I got only one set of letters from the credit bureaus and forwarded them as soon as I got them to Peritus.

I have received 2 other notices from Peritus that they had sent off another round of letters to the credit bureau, but haven't received any information from any of the credit bureaus. The last email I received from Peritus stated that since all my credit history is now closed I would need 24 months of positive credit history in order to qualify for a loan. I immediately called Jeff to inquire as to why it would take an additional 24 months. He said it shouldn't take 24 months and that must be a typo, he would contact Peritus and get back with me. He never returned my phone call. I have since canceled my contract with Peritus and tried again to contact Jeff, he's no longer with the company.

I have spoken a couple of times to Brock who keeps telling me it's crazy in his office; he's opening a new office and can't seem to find the time to return my phone calls. Just yesterday, I called Brock once again and he said he would set up a conference call between myself, him and Kevin (owner-manager of Peritus) to discuss the issue of me canceling my contract and wanting a refund. I don't anticipate getting that conference call.
