H&R Block did my taxes a few times until the last time when they made a error and refused to redo the return and amend it.
I had to take the return to another person who redid the return and got me a refund of $580.00 (charged me $125 then).
H&R still continued to say that there was no reason to redo it as the distribution was valid... Which is ludicrous.
They tried to state that I had the exact same distribution twice in a row.
Btw, it is impossible to have a distribution from a 401k to ira and to repeat the exact same distribution in the exact same way on the exact same date (it was 12 months apart).
Even with the redo (the original had me paying taxes of $1500).
As far as IM concerned H&R Block is a criminal organization and that many of its preparers are in fact incompetent.
The only way I would ever go back to them is if they refunded both their fees & the fees of the guy who redid it both.
Doubtful, as they dont honor their idea of backing what they do.
I call them criminal because of not only the refusal 'even in the face of the proof from IRS' but also their attitude that they knew more than another preparer (btw, I didnt tell them that the guy who redid my taxes was a former IRS person on the first visit back to H&R, but did the 2nd time I tried.
Both cases they called me a lier and threatened to call the police. Funny, I wasnt doing anything to justify their treatment of me other than getitng in line like others and talking a bit loud (not loud enough to be a disturbance issue).
Told him to go ahead and call them, because it would result in very public announcment they dont know how to do taxes here.
Still didnt get $, but I did get them back in a way.
No details to be given but it resulted in some of the people being banned from doing taxes forever.
