My bank account was frozen on Friday. Yes, that's less than one week before Christmas! YES< I have NO MONEY to pay my bills. YES, I can become homeless, bills be unpaid, credit destroyed, and no food.
Why? Because the bank decided several months ago to no longer allow my fiance to deposit his pay-roll check into my account without his being a holder of said account. They basically forced me to put him on my account or else they wouldn't accept his check. Fine. Well, he has an old medical bill of almost 3,000 dollars. How old, a few years. They were sending bills and then stopped doing that. I was waiting for the collection agency to call to work out a payment deal with them, but they never did. Being as we are not wealthy people (obviously) and have a billion other bills, I forgot about this.
We did not recieve ANY communication about this bill in over a year. Imagine my surprise to find my bank account had been frozen. The 2,100 dollars which was there to cover bills already sent out as well as living expenses for the next two weeks was gone AND 800 more was to BE taken. (out of thin air apparently)
We have tried to contact the party responsible for this (one Paul Hooten Associates) and left messages but no one responds.
I don't currently have a job, the economy being what it is. Money is tight. These LEECHES think they can just take 3,000 dollars and keep moving? HOW?! The money that was in that account was already SPENT to pay bills! There IS no 3,000 dollars extra lying around to throw at some old medical bill! Now what? We're supposed to just produce another 3,800 dollars to cover the rest of this bill PLUS the bills they stole the rightful money from?
I did the best research I could on levy-laws in NY state. From what I read it said that no money can be given to the plaintiff for 21 days. Yet, the plaintiff (Hooten) has gotten 100 dollars already and the rest is frozen and only appears on the ledger not on my available balance, which they say is negative due to the subtraction of the whole debt.
WE NEVER RECEIVED ANY PHONE CALLS, nor COURT SUMMONS, NOR NOTICE OF JUDGEMENT! Nothing! Last I heard was a bill threatening to turn over to a collection agency over a year ago. I wanted it to go to collections because they are the ones who are able to work with you by bringing down the total bill as well as accepting payment plans. This never happened.
So... Now what? I'm going to lose everything because of these greedy monsters? I have NO MONEY for a lawyer, obviously! These people aren't even ANSWERING OUR MESSAGES!!! SURELY there is some one who can help me? PLEASE?
I know there are too many capitals in this message, but I'm at my whit's end! It's NOT the time of year (As if there's a more preferrable time to lose your life) to have to be literally HUNGRY because you can't buy groceries!
These people are down-right EVIL. Gods forbid they are allowed to get away with stealing. Repeat: NO phone calls, NO summonses, NO contact from Hooten and Associates at all at any point!
