I rented an apartment from Furnished Dwellings. I lived in it for 8 months. During this time, they raised the rent arbitrarily (within a few months), until it was $4,000 for a studio apartment in Manhattan. The actual price that Furnished Dwellings paid for this same apartment was approximately $2,100. On the Furnished Dwellings website, this same apartment was still listed for much less than $4,000. Currently, this same apartment is listed on the Furnished Dwellings website for $3250 per month, so why were they charging me $3,900 per month? Is it fair to overcharge me by over $700 a month?
Furnished Dwellings also harassed me constantly. They made strange demands, like demanding that I have no guests over in a residential apartment building. They claimed that I was "noisy, " although I arguably was not. They claimed that I allowed my pets in the hallway, although that never happened at all. Once, I paid my rent on time, and two weeks later, Furnished Dwellings harassed me to pay the next month's rent, even though it wasn't due yet. Furnished Dwellings constantly called my phone, pressuring me to allow them to enter the apartment, and being rude when I wouldn't consent to it. They were always rude and disrespectful. During my last month in this apartment, Furnished Dwellings informed me that they wanted to me to move, but they allowed me less than two weeks to relocate. While I was still contacted as a tenant and paid, they sent their employee to my apartment to scream at me and harass me. This happened at least three times that I noticed. Finally, in the last two weeks, Furnished Dwellings called me to tell me that they wanted "another deposit." Their harassment and demands are outrageous.
When I complained to the broker who arranged this deal, he told Furnished Dwellings about my complaints. They responded with vicious and unfounded character slander.
