American family insurance is ripping people off by using the excuse that they are basing peoples insurance premiums on their credit rating. I have been a loyal customer of american family for over 10 years for my auto insurance. I have always paid my premiums and have never been in any accidents or filed ANY claims against them.
Anyway what pisses me off is that I got a letter in the mail today that they are going to base my next years premium on my credit report. I worked the same job for 14 years and last year i was let go due to company downsizing - well needless to say the good credit that i had went down the tubes when i lost my job. Well anyone with half a brain knows that the economy sucks now and i still have not been able to find a job, but i always made sure my insurance was paid so i can drive my car to look for work.
But now american family is going to raise my rates and make it even harder for me to get by. I know some idiot from american family is going to write me back and say "all the other insurance companies are doing this too" but everyone i talked to say their insurance company doesn't do this. This is an invasion of privacy - auto insurance premiums should be based on past driving records and claims filed against insurance companies - not whether i was late paying on my visa card - that is none of the insurance companies d*n business.
Besides - isn't there something called a privacy act? You either pay your insurance premium and get coverage or don't pay it and lose coverage-duh!!! Insurance is a property risk business-not a credit business. Anyway, american family just lost another FORMER loyal customer!!!
