I applied online for a loan with Horizon North Credit Services. Darnell Cunningham from this company contacted me 2 days later and informed me that I was approved for a $10,000 loan. All I had to do was send $615 by moneygram to cover the first 4 months payments. Desperate to get myself out of debt I fell for the scam. I moneygramed $615 to Mr Cunningham. I was able to contact him after he recieved my money and he assured me that I would have the money in my bank account by the end of the day.
Hours went by and I heard nothing. I waited until the next day to contact him again. It was a saturday so mr cunningham was out of the office but his secretary kindly informed me that I needed to send another $420 in order for my loan to be processed. She called it an allocation fee because the money was coming from the cayman islands. Since I sent them all of my money the previous day I was not able to send more money. The secretary advised me to speak with mr cunningham on tues when he was back in the office. Mr cunningham was not reachable on tuesday when I called back.
Finally on Wed I was able to speak with him. He said he would see what was going on and would call me back. I waited for a couple of hours and then called him back. He then informed me that I would have to pay the allocation fee to get my loan. He did get them to lowere the allocation fee to $350. Still broke and very skeptical at this point I kindly told Mr Cunningham that I would llike to have the money I already sent him refunded to me because I would not be able to get another $350. Mr. Cunningham transferred me to the accounting dept. Where they informed me I would recieve a check in 5-14 days.
15 days later I still had not recieved a check so I called the company. Whoever I spoke with told me that my check was issued on Monday (the call was made on Wed). The check did not come on Wed or Thurs so I started calling again on Thurs afternoon. I got nothing but the runaround. I asked to speak with Mr Cunningham and was told to call back in 15 min. When he would be back in the office. When I called back 15 min later the phone service kept disconnecting my call after the company greeting.
I have tried for several days to get through to the company and cannot get past the company greeting before getting disconnected. I have realized im probably not going to get my money back without some legal help but Im also extremely embarrased that I fell for such an obvious scam. I hope that someone considering an internet loan with any company reads about my situation and does research before sending someone money.
When I moneygramed this company my money, it was sent to canada to a person's name not a business (red flag #1). I have recently discovered that it is illegal for someone to charge for a loan. Please don't be a nieve as I was, if your credit is not good enough to get the loan you want then you probably don't need the loan anyway.
