My husband received his card last year. When we tried to activate the account on-line we could not. My husband called in December and spoke to a representative. He gave the rep authorization to add me as an authorized person on the account and had the misspelling of his mother's maiden name so we could log on. Still was not changed and they would not talk to my wife. I handle all the bills because of my husband's work. It is hard for him to go on-line or call.
There was a payment of $25 due on Saturday, December 30. Sent a check on Tuesday, December 26. Also mailed checks to Wachovia (back East) and another to the Midwest the same day. Both those checks cleared my California Bank on December 29.
Barclay charged us a $39 late fee that they refused to waive saying they did not receive payment until Tuesday, January 2. They said they did not receive it Saturday the 30th, and then Sunday no mail and Monday a holiday. We were upset and wrote a letter. They wrote us a dear john letter telling us too bad.
Skip to Marh 2007. There was a balance owing of $122.74 on March 31. On March 7 we paid $622.00 and on March 20 we paid $600.74. When I got the payoff amount that was what was given to me - $600.74. We did not receive a statement in April.
On May 14 we received a statement with a $39.00 late fee and a $1.74 finance charge. They refused to waive late fee, even though we still could NOT check balance on-line because of their error. Paid late fee and new charges. They would not give me the finance charge I owed, so paid the balance, closed account and now have to wait for finance charges so I am not ripped off again for $39.00.
There really needs to be a class action law suit against this company. I had to call 4 times today to speak with reps. They would hang up on me, disconnect me or put me on hold. Nice business practices. Fuming in LA
