Merchants' Credit Guide
Dishonest, fraudulent billing collectors, false collection information, Non facts onhand RIPOFF

In April I received a message on my answering machine in regards to a old debt that belongs to my husband. I called the company back and spoke with a Theresa Howard. She stated my husband had a debt in the 1 or 2 thousand dollar range that need to be cleared up.

She proceeded to tell me if we paid in full today it would be X amount, but in 3 installments it would be X amount for each payment due on 1st of month for 3 months. So how would we like to pay this bill?

I asked her what the bill was for? She stated that they were merely a collector and she had no idea who the original bill was from, but that I could write to them and request all that information and they would send it to me. She then asked me again "how would I like to take care of this bill?"

I told her I was not just going to send her or anyone that kind of money with out knowing what I was paying for and if the bill even belonged to me. She couldn't tell me anything over the phone, I needed to request the information in writing.

After getting upset by asking her how she can call asking me to send her company over a $1000.00, but why she couldn't tell me who the original bill came from & the fact pertaining to the debt. Somewhere in our conversation she said it was from a GE credit company. I asked to speak with her supervisor, she said she was unavailable but sent me to her voice mail.in which I left a message, but she never called me back.

I did a free yearly credit report on my husband and his credit report was so clean, but to my suprise a ge company had did an enquire on him. We had just in the past couple of years bought a home, refinanced it for the second time and I know we had paid in those 3 deals paid every bill owed in past 10 years from credit to Doctors bills and there was not one ge bill anywhere.

She had also stated that the bill would not be on his report due to it was an old bill over 10 years and would not be on there but we did pay a bill off on his report that was 10 years old but it was not a ge bill.

Needless to say a year and 15 days later we have a message on our answering machine again from the same company with a recorded voice statting that after a 3 second pause this will prove that verification of this debt is verified by my husband, in this matter. Please call 888-249-4134 in regards to this matter. Well my husband did and it was a non working number. So then he had the operator try it and still non working number.
Then he tried the caller ID number which was 866-352-0237 which was also a non working number.

I have had credit reports ran again on my husband and nothing comes up and still no proof has been sent to me on this matter.

So what should I do I have paid lots of old bills, but I just know this is not my husbands bill and if they have no proof to send us, what is your oppinon?

I then typed up a letter requesting the original debtor and any proof of all transactions regarding the account. Sent the letter the same day. I never received anything back.
