Danger if you bank at fifth third consider reading this!
Fifth third never advised their customers that their computers were hacked into and over 40 million customer's credit card account information has been stolen!
Last Thursday, I received a courtesy phone call from my bank, Fifth Third Bank in Brecksville, Ohio telling me that my account was overdrawn by over $262.00. The teller said that she called, because this was unusual for me to be overdrawn. I grabbed my calculator and started to calculate my figures along with hers and told her that even if I was overdrawn, I had overdraft protection in the form of a Master Card for $500 which I had NEVER touched in two years. This card remained in my drawer and the bank confirmed no activity was on it since 2005.
The teller told me that someone had made four telephone purchases to Telecom Italia SPA (cell phone and communications company) in Torinoipa Italy on January 14/15 at 8:29-8:36 pm. Which amounted to over $700.
I denied those charges and had to file a fraud report with the bank, Brecksville Police, and the three credit card agencies.
My checks (including my mortgage) was returned and I got penalized so far for $100 in fees and am spending days and endless hours trying to report this and get this taken care of.
My bank, 5/3 will not refund my losses—only the charges they charged me for NSF fees. I am told this will take 30 days for the fraud department to investigate!
In November I was contacted by 5/3 Bank saying they wanted to give me a home (equity) loan I denied, but then said okay in case I would ever need this in the future. I received a Fair & Accurate Credit Transaction Disclosure of Credit Scores in the mail, but not only did I receive one for myself, I received one for another person who lives in Mentor! Behind that was 5/3 privacy statement telling me how 5/3 protects their customer's privacy rights! I called this person to find out that this person DOES NOT BANK WITH FIFTH THIRD, NOR DID THEY EVER APPLY FOR A HOME LOAN!
Fifth Third did run a credit check on me in November.
I was shocked to have looked online to find out that 5/3 had their computers hacked into and 40 million credit cards are at risk now!
Fifth third at least owed their customers a warning telling us that this had happened, but they chose to remain silent endangering millions of customers! They should have changed our credit card numbers, but instead they let us be like sitting ducks waiting to be shot at! Now, we must take the losses.
As I researched online, I found that this was a terrorist act and that terrorists stole credit card numbers to purchase cell phones (just as they did with my credit card). The terrorists not only use the cell phones to communicate with, but use the batteries to produce bombs! They also use the cell phones for the purpose of setting the bombs!
Fifth Third must not have cared about this terrorist activity, or they would have made an attempt to stop this terrorism by notifying all of their customers of this computer hacking and immediately changed all of our credit cards.
Makes one think about who is participating in terrorist activity.
