I received this nice bright green postcard in the mail stating that I "... Have been identified as a possible recipient of government subsidies of at least $5,000.00. Unlike a loan, a subsidy is money the recipient never has to pay back. There are subsidies and financial assistance programs that provide for many different needs. Here are just a few that you may be interested in applying for: 1. Education, 2. Housing, 3. Business, and 4. Disaster relief..." And it goes on. Who wouldn't want FREE money?!?! I certainly do. I'm married with a 9 month old. I just bought a house, etc. I called the number. Oh boy... Mistake. They wanted $299.97!! They wanted my bank information and their money before I ever got a dime. I waited a few days and thought about it. I called back and talked to someone and asked them why I should have to pay money to get FREE money?! He proceeded to inform me that it was their cost to do the paper work, etc. They were a private company that just informed the people of all the free money they could get from the government. What a load of crock. Frustrated, I just rescheduled my draft date and hung up. I called back today... About 45 minutes ago. Mistake number 3. The lady was incredibly rude to me. She informed me that I was making a big mistake. I kept telling her over and over again that I couldn't and wouldn't pay them any money and she said that she could not and would not cancel out my "contract." I informed her that I would call my bank and not allow any payments to be drafted from my bank account now or anytime in the future and that if she even tried that I would take legal action. I then asked her if I could speak with a manager of some sort and she informed me that she was the manager. At this point, I'm getting extremely upset and ready to scream. She was extremely rude to me and put me on hold for 20 minutes. When someone finally came back on the line. She said the only reason she was going to cancel my contract is because she didn't want any trouble. Can you believe the nerve of these people?
Please do not make this mistake. You shouldn't have to pay for a government grant of any kind. When a student files for financial aid... Do they pay for someone to file their paperwork? NO! Hard lesson learned... Hopefully someone will read this and learn from my and others mistakes before they make the same and sit here like me for 30 minutes ranting about a huge mess such as this.
