My husband and I bought our 1993 mobile home 11 years ago and it was financed through Bank Of America, then they were bought out.
Greenpoint became our new creditors, and granted we were late many many times with our payments, we were harrassed over and over again.
I actually was asked "Can't you borrow the money to pay this bill?"
I was called all hours of the day and night, even after 11pm, and on Sundays, and occasionally on Holidays.
At one point, we had gotten an extension on our loan, and then stopped recieving bills, or bills with 0 due now on them.
Now at this time I was in college fulltime, working and trying to raise four boys. I hadn't paid too much attention to the fact that our bills were still showing $0.00 due, and when I did notice it and thought it odd, I thought well maybe we got a longer extension than I thought!
Well, come to find out when I called about said discrepancy, I was told I was over due by $2100.00. I paid $1100.00 and they extended the rest (which means they just add it on to the end of the loan), which I thought they should have eaten seeing as it was their error to begin with.
Well eventually, I got tired of hasseling with them, of making payments on a pitfully built mobile home (that was literally falling down around us).
I mean the walls literally buckled in the middle, the roof started leaking, we had water lines leak from almost day one, a sliding glass door that leaked, particle board floors that were rotting through, shattered windows, had to replace the front door due to buckling, the vent over the stove kept falling no matter how we tried to put it back up, we found out there actually was no floor under our tub in the front bathroom and suspect the same is true in the other bathroom, we found out that there were 2X2's in the walls, and the supporting beams in the floor were only 2x4's... But of course this is manufactoring not financing.
But it goes to show why after 10 years of living in this mobile home I decided I had had enough. So I called Greentree (they had just "bought" Greenpoint) and told them they could come get the mobile home. That I simply wasnt going to make another payment on it!
That was in December now it is almost July and the mobile home has been empty since December and it is still sitting on my father in laws property.
Then I just recieved a notice from a collection agency that stated they need to recieve a 24,000 dollar payment immediately.
I am sorry, but I wouldnt allow my worst enemy live in that house, let alone my only family. And I refuse to pay for a trash heap. I just wish they would come get it!
And I wish they could reimburse the many families that they have told "obviously you dont care about your home"
I actually was told that, that I didnt care about the obligation to pay my bills, and that I didnt care about my home. While trying to explain to the man about my sick children and why I hadnt been to work, I was yelled at, cussed at and then in his computer he claimed I had cussed him out. Sheeeee... I told him to go to He— and hung up in his face!
Can anyone tell what the law is? Shouldnt they have come and repossessed this home by now?
