Ripped a low income family off of $300 and told us we had a loan! Ripoff

My girlfriend and I have not had real good credit so we started looking on the web for some mortgage companies. We came across this company. I had been working with a guy for 5 or 6 weeks, sending him information that he wanted. He said he ran my credit report and found us a loan for 90,000.

We were delighted. I had been looking for a lender for 6 or 7 months, and he seemed very nice and willing to work with us. After getting together information that he wanted, faxing, copying, forwarding, calling him and so forth, he told us he needed $300 to get started, so I told him I had to talk it over with my girlfriend.

A couple of days later, I noticed he had taken the money out of my bank account, so I called him and asked him why?

He told me to get a realtor, and to go ahead. I took off work and so did my girlfriend to find houses. I got a realator and we had found 3 or 4 houses. When the realator called, she said the number had been disconnected, and that she would keep trying to get through, well almost a year later we had no idea how to get our money back.

I am still looking for a lender but I will not give anyone any money. How do I get my money back. And are these people going to pay for this heartache. My girlfriend and I fought for 2 or 3 months about this. She was so mad that I had given him my account numbers, but he seemed so honest. It cost me $300, plus 3 or four days of work, phone calls, faxes, worries, fights, and almost my 6 year relationship. Please help!!!
