I too am writing about my experience with Union Planters. Our checks were direct deposited every Friday. I checked the balance with them on Friday and on Saturday got an overdraft notice inthe mail that was dated for Friday. I had not written any checks during that time and according to them, our check was deposited and then all the funds were used.
Somewhere in the process $700 disappeared from our account and I have been arguing with them since last September trying to get an explanation as to what happened. We can not get a straight answer from them. They will not credit the overdraft charges back to us. They have closed our account and turned it over to a collection agency.
We still have yet to even get a bank statement from them for that period of time. When you go in they just tell me they will mail me one although it never comes. This was the second time I was overdrawn. The first time I went online to pay a bill and it would not go through so I tried it several times. Well, the company that I was trying to pay ran it through all the times that I tried and it and you guessed it, it all came out of my account and overdrew it.
I called the bank to see what could be done and the lady i talked to told me to call my branch and explain to them what happened and they would credit the late charges back to me. She also told me that if someone was doing their job, they should have realized something had happened because there were 6 debits for the same amount one minute apart and someone should have caught that. They never did credit the overdraft charges back to me although I called the company that debited all of that and they credited it all back since it was a mistake.
I wish I had listened to all the bad things about this bank before I ever took my business there. I would not recommend this bank to anyone for any reason.
