Ripoff charging for coverage when coverage has been cancelled

In November my son wrecked my 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee Larado. Since we only had liability on it, we called our insurance agent to cancel the insurance because we wouldn't be getting it fixed right away.

We had nothing but problems with our agent, Peter S. Shynk Jr. We would call and call him, and he would never return our calls (even before this took place). Finally, at this point we are so fed up, we call the main office to report him and cancel our insurance on our other cars.

I told the person I talked with I would like to speak with Peter Shynks supervisor, and to call before 12:00 noon as I had to go to work. A couple of days later we received a call at 1:20 P.M., no message, but thanks to caller I.D. We were able to verify that we did receive a call. I then called back again the next day and told my story and asked that Peter Shynks supervisor call me before 12:00 noon.

Again, a couple days later we received a call after 12:00. I called again and this time was a little irate with them, I told them if they couldn't call before noon, don't bother. Well, I guess they decided not to bother because I didn't hear from them again until...

A few months later I received a bill for $577. And some change. There was a number to call. It said the letter was coming from the Country Companies collection department. I called Mark at the number given on the letter and he told me the bill was for insurance on the 1995 Jeep from December until May. I told him we had cancelled the insurance in November because the car had been wrecked and was undrivable. I told him the car wasn't fixed until mid February because we didn't need it (we had other cars), and that after we had gotten it back from the man that was working on it we called to get insurance on it. He told me to get a letter from the man that worked on it, stating what was wrong with it, why it wasn't drivable and when it was fixed. He said that would usually take care of the problem and it would be dropped. He gave me a fax number to send it to.

A couple days later, I got the letter and took it to PIP Printing and had it faxed to Mark. I received my confirmation that the fax had went through and left. I didn't hear anything from them again, so I'm assuming everything is cleared up, until...

Another month or so had passed. I received a letter from an attorney stating they were going to sue me. I had thirty days to dispute the bill or they would continue with the lawsuit.

I called this Mark again. Of course, I left a message and told him to call me before 12:00 noon, and of course he called after I went to work. I called again the next day, no response. I called again and actually got through. Mark said he never received a letter. I told him I had confirmation that the fax had gone through... And low and behold he found it. He said it was denied by whomever suppposedly checks into this stuff, because of lack of information. I asked him what was missing and why I was never contacted if there was information missing. I told him exactly what he had told me before, about what information he wanted. He said he would have to check into it and get back with me.

He did call me back the next day and said they were going to be checking with the man who fixed my car (I guess they're calling me a liar), but that doesn't matter, because as of today (over 2 weeks later), they still haven't checked with the man that fixed my car.

I did send a certified letter to the attorney who is threatening a lawsuit (I've learned not to trust anyone). I detailed the problems and what has happened up till this point. As of today I still haven't heard anything from either one of them. I'm sure they're just blowing me off again.

I don't mind paying for the month or two that I owe, which I also find hard to believe I owe them anything, because Country Companies won't let you go a week without threatening to cancel you, let alone a month or two.

What I find really odd is... After speaking with my aunt, she is also having the same problem with them. She cancelled her insurance and is now being threatened also. I also spoke with a friend of the family that is also having the same problem. Coincidence? Or Ripoff? Ripoff!

We are now looking for information about how to file a class action lawsuit.

This company needs to start addressing their problems and stop bullying their former customers (whom wouldn't be "former" if it weren't for their lack of customer service).
