Not What It Seems

After deciding to start my own welding business in Pasco Florida, I went to the county government office to apply for a business tax permit.in the next few days I got calls from all kinds of website, advertising, and merchant credit card processing companies. It was overwhelming actually. Had to tell them all no.

One call was from Jeff Shue who said he was with 'superpages' which published the 'verizon yellow pages'. He said he could help me get my business going fast by advertising with his company. He mentioned superpage ads and yellow page listings. I asked him to send me services and pricing by mail or email.
Then he said that he wanted to record our conversation of the services I was interested in. I didn't like that but he insisted that that I could review the paper work that I would get to review and then decide and or make changes. Almost two weeks went by and I did not get anything from Mr Shue or his company. So I called Mr Shue's direct phone line, 727.563.7263. I left a message on the answering service. He did not call. I called again next day, and got message service. Again I left message. A few hours went by so I called customer service @ superpages 866.917.8737. After explaining my situation, the rep said that Mr Shue had to handle that himself and they would make sure he called me. I said fine. Mr Shue called the next day and the first thing he said was that I should not have called customer service, and he would have called eventually. I told him that I had not received the written services and prices yet. He said not to worry, I should get it the next day or so. I was already upset about all this
and I told him to forget about everything and I didn't want any advertising. He said to call him if and when I had any questions or concerns. Now, 50 days later, I get a letter in the USPS mail from " supermedia llc ". It had confirming copies of ads in yellow pages and superpages, which I had told Mr Shue I did not want. Well I called Mr Shue. No answer, and left message to call and that it was urgent. Waited a couple of hours and still no call from Mr Shue! Now I am calling Customer service again...'Mr Shue is going to to be upset again'... I have a rep on the line and I explain what has been going on and that the ads are supposed to be cancelled. The lady told me that the yellow pages could be cancelled but the superpages had already been published and could not be cancelled. I told her I didn't want anything published, and a page on the internet can be deleted faster than it was put up, and that I had never received anything to review and make agreement to. What was my ad going to say? Where is my had? When was it published? I told told her I had no information at all. She said it was up to Mr Shue to stop the ad. She said she would make sure Mr Shue called me immediatly. She also told me to fax a request for cancelation as soon as possible to #9724536764. Mr Shue called the next day and right away he said that he could not stop the ad because it was on the internet and that I had agreed to it. I asked him to please stop the ad, because I never received what he had promised to send so I could make a final decision, and I told him that I was tricked into this and he said he didn't care and I would have to pay anyway. I tried to reason with him and he said he wasn't going argue with me. This is not fair. What can be done about people like this?
Is this what people in USA have resorted to? Ripping other people off? How can someone con someone else out of their money? If I don"t want the ad why can't it be stopped? What is so complicated?
