On Saturday, 28 Jun, I received a message from SBC Yahoo welcoming me to their site. I wondered about this since I have ABC DSL, and maybe I had something to do with Yahoo now since they merged. I opened the email from SBC. I do not know why, but I just happened to glance at the TO: address. It was NOT my email address.
Then, in the afternoon and evening, I began to receive emails addressed to this other email address. Some were a little racy and not in English. I did not recognize the language, but found out that the person whose email I was receiving lives in Korea. I immediately called SBC and talked for about an hour or so, and nothing happened. The call was elevated to a second tier, a different person in a different state. Another hour went by. Still nothing.
The next day, I got on to my new SBC Yahoo site, and it says "Welcome..." Apparently somehow, and neither SBC nor Yahoo knows how, my account and the other account got merged. His name appears, my address appears, his phone number appears, my city and state appear, and his personal data appears. So I was still getting emails addressed to him on Sunday. I talked to another SBC/Yahoo person, and OK, test messages went back and forth. The test message to MY email address came OK. The test message to HIS email address ALSO came to me. Still not fixed.
Last night, Monday, I spent another two hours with SBC/Yahoo. They advised me that since the accounts were merged, there is nothing they can do. I received a really nasty email from the other "owner," and he wants to know why I stole his site and personal data and all his files. Well, dumb me, I tried to reply to his message, and who gets it? No one but ME! So this time I got online with SBC/Yahoo.
After an hour or so, I came to the conclusion that nothing can be done. He wants me to change my email address. No way, say I. I have had that screen name for 6 years now, and there is NO way I am going to change. The other email addressee is a free Yahoo account, and my address is an ameritech.net address (I have left out the names to protect the innocent!). My suggestion is that SBC Yahoo delete the other email address.
They say they cannot do it. So in the meantime, I have four email addresses of folks from SBC/Yahoo. Guess who is going to be forwarded all the emails that come to my inbox with the other email address on it? Yeah, you guessed it! Is anybody out there at SBC/Yahoo reading this?
The saga continues.
