I needed a tooth repaired. I phoned Humana-one dental and learned that the deductible was huge. Since I could afford nothing more, I had them pull the tooth. At home I phoned to cancel, because I would pay roughly $35.00USD in premium each month while the extraction cost 100, so there was no reason to pay them. They insisted I had signed a contract, though I did not even know about one. They told me to send in a grievance with my name and number asking for cancellation, and I did. Between 2 and 3 weeks later, they charged the premium once more. I phoned again. When I asked them to send proof of a contract I had signed, they left me on hold for more than 15 minutes. During the wait there was complete silence, which made me suspect they had hung up. This trick has been used on me previously. They count on customers getting discouraged and giving up. I refused to.
Once the agent came back, there was nothing new, only the same claims as earlier. I asked for a supervisor and was again put on hold for a long wait. Silence for about 5 minutes, followed by Indian music.
A young sounding woman came on the line claiming to be a supervisor. She repeated the same points. She brought up a contract that I had never signed, and when I requested an American agent, she asked whether I wanted to be transferred overseas. I asked for Humana itself. She claimed to be Humana, and her accent was clearly Indian. I requested someone empowered to return my payment and end this policy, which was plainly a scam. She said nobody could do that and that I must wait 60 - 90 days for the board to decide. Afterward I contacted my bank and had my card cancelled.
