On 8-26-03 my husband and I went to Soaring Darts and Billiards to purchase a pool table. The owner Douglas Martin took our order and seemed very nice.
He informed us that if we would pay for the pool table in full he could promise us the table set up and delivered in one week or less. We agreed and paid in full of $1,900.00 cash.
We trusted and believed this to be true and felt this was a reputable business for it had been in business for several years.
One week turned into three weeks of excuses from Douglas Martin. His excuse was that the truck was delayed with the delivery. He also told us he would keep us informed, this never happen. We were the ones always calling to inquire about our order.
On 9-19-03 my husband faxed Connelly the manufacture of the pool table to get some answers. Right away they replied informing us that they will not deliver to Soaring Darts and Billiards untill the order is paid for. They said Douglas Martin has had a history of not paying for his orders.
That same day my husband and I drove to Soaring Darts and Billiards to talk to Douglas Martin. He was not there. An employee said he would be back in an hour. We returned in an hour, Douglas Mating was not there. I asked the employee if she could contact him by phone, and she was able to.
My husband talked to Douglas Martin and told him we wanted to cancel our order and wanted our money back. He agreed and promised to return our money that day. Later that day we got a call from Douglas Martin he stated he was out of town and would not make it back in time before the banks close. He promised he would have our money to us on 9-22-03.
9-22-03 came and went with out a word from Douglas Martin. On 9-23-03 we sent Soaring Darts and Billiard / Douglas Martin a certified letter requesting our money back.
Later we learned we needed to send a demand letter so on 9-30-03 we sent another certified letter, demand letter to Soaring Darts and Billiards/Douglas Martin. We never got a reply from Douglas Martin.
Since that time we have tried to file a complaint with our local BBB with no luck. We contacted our local TV news with our story and they did a story of our problem.
We have also filed a complaint with our local D.A. And have not heard anything from them.
I do know that there is possible 12 other people waiting for there pool tables. Connelly told us Soaring Darts and Billiard had that many pool tables on order.
There is a chance that the business has closed up. The landlord where Soaring Darts and Billiards is located locked them out possible to not paying the rent.
I know that the business phone number is disconnected. I am not sure if the cell number for Douglas Martin is disconnected. I do not have that cell number at this time but I will get it to you if you need it.
I can also give you the name of the reporter from the TV news station if you should need it, he may have more information.
My husband and I worked real hard to save for this pool table that we have wanted for some time. To us that is a lot of money.
Douglas Martin stole our money and that is a crime. At this time we don't even know if the D.A. Will help out.
