The folks at JBC Legal Group have been busy indeed. I was mildly alarmed when I received a claim for a bad check from November 7,1993 (it's April) for a purchase at a CompUSA. No Bank Account number, no bank name, and highly unlikely that it was correct. They requested a simple credit card to bill my husband's alleged bad debt to and I could avoid all that nasty court battle stuff, them suing us for double the face value of the check plus court costs and other miscellaneous threats.
I did call, and was not treated rudely - but Elaine said she had to have one of the attorneys call me back when I asked for the bank info and a copy of the check. My husband doesn't even think he owned a checking account in 1993, long before we met! She seemed a bit flustered at being asked to come up with a bit more information than a name, a COMPUSA and an amount owed.
If you hear from these JBC guys, fight them off. It's apparently a big scam where they figure if 1% of the people blindly pay them without researching it's just money in their greedy pockets!
