Ms. Smethurst sold me an 11-week old puppy that I took to my vet per her 2-day requirement to do so. I guess she did not think I would. The puppy had an inguinal hernia. The vet told me that while it did not pose an immediate health risk, it probably would require surgery. I specifically told Ms. Smethurst that I was going to breed the puppy. The vet also indicated that it could post a problem with a possible rupture during a pregnancy/delivery and that offspring of the puppy could also inherit the hernia as it is an hereditary trait. She indicated to me that all of her puppies had been vet checked when clearly any competent vet would have discovered this hernia just as my vet did (and Ms. Smethurst saw when I returned the puppy).
When I called Ms. Smethurst about the issue, she became very defensive with me. I had to threaten her with taking her to court before she said she would take the puppy back.
Initially Ms. Smethurst gave me a $200.00 discount toward the purchase of two puppies (one was kept by a friend of mine despite the apparent future risk). When I returned one, she deducted the $200.00 discount and refused to return the $950 I had paid for this puppy, only returning $750. This was after less than 24 hours.
I would never deal with this breeder again.
