Golden Circle Distribution, Kirby
Kirby Vacuums Job scam, slave labo

I went to Golden Circle recently for an interview. Being a recent college graduate and having just received a legit call from a job previous to this one, I was excited for the interview because I know how hard it is to get a job these days. However, when I pulled up to the building, my fiance looked at me and said, "If this is for that vacuum company, DO NOT accept it." I went in to find out anyways.

When I walked in, I was brought to a room with about 6 or 7 other people filling out applications asking for very personal information, such as driver's license number. I failed to mention before that I have a degree in Criminal Justice, so I like to think I know a little about the law. And I knew you are almost never required to give your driver's license number on an application unless you will be operating a vehicle. This job was only advertised as customer service.

The interview was held in a front room with a huge window. My fiance was actually watching my interview through the other side because you can see in on everything. Also, I was interviewed with another man who also didn't buy into this business because he told me it didn't seem legit. But we went through the interview anyways. The hiring "manager" (if that's what he is) told us how we can move up quickly and get paid a lot of money just for providing customer service and "showing customers the products." Then he listed names like Geico and Wells Fargo, along with Kirby vacuums, saying they were affiliated. This made absolutely no sense to me.

He told us he'd call by 7pm that night to say if we got the job or not, and as promised, I received a phone call by that time. I did not answer because I was at my other, real job, but I did get the phone number on my cell phone. No voicemail was reached, which I found weird because normally an employer would leave a voicemail. Also, the number was not a CT number. This is when I decided to research Golden Circle and found all these reports of scams.

I then found out that my soon-to-be brother-in-law had already worked for Kirby, and everything said about the 8am-9pm working hours 2 hours away from where a person was comfortable was all true. He also never received a paycheck... instead he got a Kirby vacuum. So his hard work never got paid off. Obviously, after hearing this i did not take the job.

Also, I decided to run some checks on the not one but 4 phone numbers that called my phone. 2 led to Kirby vacuums, 1 was unknown, and... This is the killer... The number not from Connecticut was from Fred in Topeka, Kansas, working for ANOTHER distributor for Kirby vacuums. I now have people from KANSAS bothering me over this company.

I notified the CT Department of Labor and will continue to do so in order for them to be made aware of the situation going on with this company. I am very disgruntled with this company and what they have done to innocent people's lives. And I encourage everyone else who has been made a victim of this company to step forward and do the same so they can hopefully be shut down or at least stop what they are doing now.
