On December 13 I went to Shannon Ensminger's home to view and talk about purchasing a teacup chihuahua for my mother for christmas. When I arrived I noticed right away that there where no parents on the premises. However, at the time I was not knowledable and very excited about purchasing a teacup for my mother.
Shannon promised that the puppy would not exceed 4lbs fully grown, which I have since learned that no breeder or person can guarantee the size of a puppy full grown.
Shannon had an answer for everything. I felt pressured as she stated that someone else was coming to look at the puppy. With it being so close to Christmas and me not being fully aware of what a chihuahua teacup puppy should look like I went head and purchased the puppy.
She stated that the dog was worth $1500.00 because she said it was show quality, but since I was going to give it as a companion pet for my mother she would only charge me $550.00. I paid the $550.00 in cash and she stated if I wanted papers I would have to pay another $100.00, which i could not afford.
My mother took the dog to the vet within three days she tried to contact Shannon before going to the vet. However, Shannon did not return her phone calls. Shannon stated the dog had already been dewormed three times and had it's first round of shots.
The vet said the puppy was infested with worms my mother had to take the puppy to the vet three more times to get rid of worms. Also the puppy had reaccouring urinary infections. The vet advised to go ahead and restart shots as she felt the dog had probably never been dewormed or given shots.
The vet believes this puppy came from a puppy mill, and has serious doubts that this is a full breed chihuahua. The chihuahua is now eight months old and weighs in at 10lbs and still growing. My mother has two other chihuahua's and this puppy looks nothing like the other two.
She also still has to monitor water intake due to him still having urinary problems. I feel conned and betrayed and the dog was not exactly what my mother was wanting however, my mom feels blessed that we saved the dog from Shannon Ensminger home. The puppy now named Chester has a loving home.
