My husband is trying to find a lawyer for the 2nd time to go to court for custody of his daughter which is severely neglected. He has solid evidence including letters from the school, pictures, and corrispondance from the mother proving neglect. Since the case is in another state, he is forced to locate a lawyer over the phone, net, etc.
My husband is a man with integrity and he assumes that someone advertising "legal services" and effective ways of helping your families will work and is truthful.
The way this works is by entering in your information and breif case description on their main page once you identify which service you need. You get a call back from a man that talks it over with you, basically gives you false hopes, then tells you that in order to secure your talk with a case manager he needs to set up your appointment for another call and you have to open an e-mail and fill in your information while he is on the phone with you.
That man then instructs you open the user agreement and fill it all in. He tells you to only open the user agreement, not the other 2 files. He needs your credit card number because he is the one that takes that info not the case worker. He then assures you that the only way you will be charged is if you decide to use their services after speaking to the caseworker. He lets you then know that if you chose to use the services, the rate starts at $199 and could go up to $900.
Sounds fair so far right? NOPE! The caseworker calls and my husband tells him he does not want the services because we have discussed it and want an actual lawyer. The caseworker calls my husband stupid and says that it is better to use them and just pay the $250 an hour to have a lawyer go in the court room and they could do all the leg work and forms rather than paying $3,000 for a retainer.
The caseworker said that the $199 had already been charged and that it was just the cost to set up an account for possible services. He stated that his so called employee used the same wording and terms as always and tried to say that my husband agreed to pay the $199. When my husband asked to speak to the so called employee, he put him on hold and came back saying the guy was on the phone, but he knew his employee told the truth because their company makes everything "VERY CLEAR."
Who in their right mind would agee to this top pay $199 for absolutely nothing? I was out of town when my husband found this and filled all his out, or I would have seen it coming. WHen you go to the site page, their is no contact info, address, fax number or anything. There is only a section to fill in your info. PLEASE people if you are in a desparate situation still take time to research before you are hurt like this. $199 isnt alot, it is the fact that this company is taking advantage of people that are desparate and hurting already.
They refuse to refund the money and my husband and I were forced to cancel our debit cards for fear that they would try to charge more fees just for the caseworker calling and us disputing with them.
