Dropped the Ball

A wedding veil was ordered 7/1. I was told by the owner she would call as soon as the veil came in.

My daughter lives out of state, I was planning the wedding to be held here in Louisiana. I was very busy with the plans and as I eventually told her I could not chase down vendors to make sure they were doing what I had paid them to do.

I became very ill with encephalitis in August and all planning was put on hold. I have many deficits from my illness and it was very difficult to finish but I did. My daughter asked me right before the wedding, "Mom did that lady ever call about the veil?" I realized I hadn't heard from her and told my daughter to just buy a veil where she lives and I'll deal with it after the wedding.

I called this person and was told she had the veil all along and why hadn't I called. Because I was told by her that she would call me I waited. She stated she "Assumed" because the bride (who lives 1000 miles away) did not pick up the veil she canceled or postponed the wedding. Again, she dropped the ball by not picking up the phone.

Long story short, since I have trouble driving and have been instructed not to when I'm unable (which she knows) she finally mailed this flat crappy single thickness piece of netting which was supposed to pass for the display veil she showed me. Well it was not correct. It had some sort of sewn edging. This is not what I ordered. Since I was planning to give my niece the veil I sent it back and asked for the veil I ordered. She has steadfastly insisted I come to her store to pick up the veil (I won't if it's incorrect) and I have begged her to be reasonable and understanding of my lingering illness.

This is all falling on deaf ears. She accused me of trying to ruin her reputation because I said I would put up a sign (about the customer service) in my yard. I responded with, I ordered a veil, paid for it, you never called, you mailed me some incorrect piece of netting, I returned it, you won't cooperate and still have my money. There's nothing false about anything I have said.

She has all sales final on the receipts which excuses her from any screw-ups. She stated in her response to the Attorney General's Office:
"I have been tempted to refund the $60 rather than waste my time dealing with this. However, as you can imagine I would have to rent a warehouse to store returned merchandise if the word spread that I refunded brides their money every time they changed their mind or cancelled a wedding"

What this says to me is if she would have to rent a warehouse she must drop the ball on a regular basis and will consistently refuse to accept responsibility for poor customer service and greediness.

I can understand a no refund policy on wedding dresses or anything that has been tailored. But a wedding veil in a bridal shop? It's not like it couldn't be resold.

I want to be done with this but will not let it slide. Her refusal to show me the smallest shred of cooperation apparently is due to greediness and poor customer service. I can't believe $60 could be that important, perhaps her business is in dire straits, but that is no reason to steal the money I gave her in good faith.
