I recently rented a movie from my local Blockbuster, store #49093. The employee who executed the transaction was exceedingly and unnecessarily rude. The employee in question is named Edmund (according to his name tag) and his employee number is 77777 (according to my receipt).
At the beginning of the transaction Edmund asked if I would like to update the credit card information on my account. I replied that I did not wish to do so and attempted to continue with the transaction. At this time Edmund demanded to know whether I had a new credit card. I indicated that I did not and Edmund proceeded to accuse me of having a new card and being reluctant to give it to him. I again replied that I was not interested in updating the credit card information on my account at the time. Edmund then became very hostile and accused me of lying to him. I replied, "Excuse me?" and Edmund told me "You don't need to make it difficult for me to help my customers."
I went home and immediately emailed a written complaint to Blockbuster. The only response I received was a generic form letter stating, "we would like to apologize for the situation that motivated you to contact us. We have made the Regional Office aware of this situation and he/she will address your concerns with field management." Obviously Blockbuster has no intention of acutally dealing with Edmund and his behavior. I used to rent from Blockbuster 2-3 times a week. After experiencing Blockbuster's idea of "customer service, " I will now be signing up for Netflix.
As evidenced here and many other places on the web, Blockbuster has consistently shown poor judgement when dealing with customers. I encourage everyone to take their business elsewhere as I am doing.
