Let me tell my story.
In January my daughter purchased a Cockapoo puppy from a breeder, Kardon Cockapoo's. After TWO days of having the puppy in our home, she became deathly ill! She had profuse smelling diarhea, beyond anything I have ever smelled before. We thought she may have eaten something by mistake, though we couldn't figure out what on earth in the two days we had her that she had gotten into.
My wife runs an in-home day care, so we were literally scared to say the least at what was going on. Anyway, Nona took her into the vet and called me histerically crying. The vet had informed her that little Annie-Mae had what was called or referred too as Canine ParvoVirus along with intestinal condittion called giardia. The worst too deal with was the Parvoviral.
I went in talked with the vet, and agreed to the treatment, though it was quoted to be a minimal of 700.00! The puppy herself cost us, $950.00! What was we suppossed to do? Let her die? We couldn't treat her at home, for gosh sakes, we had kids in the home!
We were told there are several ways a puppy can come in to contact with the virus, but given the time period of displaying signs and symptoms, the virus should have been detected by the breeder, or if not physical signs present the time from we had had her in our home to the time she became physically ill, put the contraction of the virus back to the breeder's home.
We have a 13 year old German Shepherd, Toby. This is the only other dog we have had at our home. I am not being defensive at all by anymeans, but internet search of this breeder made me come to this site and file a report.
We not only had a sick puppy to worry about, but a house full of small children that my wife was frantic over. Dreadedly I had to inform all parents of the situtaion, for the giardia, we were informed could be contracted by people! Can you belive this ordeal that we went through... My wife, to say the least was severely depressed over this entire situation.
We began to worry about if Annie-mae made it through this deadly ordeal, would she be okay to remain in our home around the children. Anyway, we lost a few children, and I can't blame them, for even with my age, I was worried about my health and my wife's health, as exposure to the illness that little Annie-mae had. My daughter purchased her over the internet. Sent her money to the breeder, though I destinctively remember discussing extreme caution when purchasing a puppy that you cannot see in person!
Anyway, after 2 weeks in the hospital, and a bill not the quoted 700.00, but instead $2123.68, we brought Annie-Mae Home! My daughter and I took turns going to the clinic every day to see her and encourage her to get better. Annie is my daughter's first pet, and my daughter is 20 years old!
We extensively followed the strict regimine of cleaning, etc our home, yard, vehicles, anything and anywhere that Annie could have been. I wrote a letter to the breeder back in february and informed her what was happening, what took place, and too see if there was any help we could receive from her. I didn't hear back from her at all, certified letters were returned undelivered, no signature of recipient.
After a couple of months, searching the internet and talking with other people whom have encountered puppies from breeders that were sick, i came across "Kardon's Cockapoo's" in Spanaway, Washington! I couldn't believe it! I looked at the website read the guarantee, which I am pasteing here now for all of you to read:

This puppy has been sold as a companion (family) pet ONLY!
This health guarantee does not include stress induced illnesses such as stress induced hypoglycemia, coccidia, worms, and kennel cough.
Puppies being shipped: All money including shipping fees must be paid by the time the puppy is 7 weeks. See bottom of page for payment options.
The Puppy described above has been carefully raised under sanitary conditions within our home in accordance with the laws, set forth by the state of Washington. This breeding program is under regular veterinary supervision. To the best of my knowledge, this Puppy is in excellent health and is guaranteed free from communicable disease. Said Puppy is of sound temperament.
All puppies are de-wormed and vaccinated. The Buyer will be provided with a copy of said Puppy's medical history (including present status of immunity vaccinations and de-worming) and is hereby required to have the puppy examined by a licensed veterinarian within three (3) days from date when Buyer assumes custody of Puppy. Form must be returned (post marked) within 7 days of seeing the vet or guarantee will be null and void.
Our guarantee does not cover parasites, i.E. Worms of any kind, fleas, etc as these can be picked up anywhere at any time. When they leave here they are guaranteed to have had proper de-worming and be flea free when they leave here!
In the event that, upon examination, said veterinarian finds the puppy to be sufficiently medically unsound (see guarantee below) as to warrant return, the Buyer shall immediately notify the Seller (no later than 3 days). ALL information from vet MUST be legible!
The Puppy shall be returned at the expense of the Buyer to the Seller, accompanied by a hand-written and signed statement by said veterinarian of all findings.in which case, said Puppy shall be replaced with another puppy of equal value if one is available. If one is not available it can be applied to a future pup. This guarantee is limited to replacement only. Money refunds will not be made.
Pup is also guaranteed in the case of death from Parvo for a period of 5 days after the pup is picked up. Puppy will be replaced under same agreement as above. Veterinary expenses are not covered (without prior consent.) All freight charges will be paid by the buyer. This guarantee is not transferable to a second party, should the original buyer sell the puppy.
Breeder reserves the right to have puppy examined either by breeder's vet or a vet both buyer and seller agree on for a second opinion.
Breeder guarantees a healthy companion pet, but does not guarantee adult size, color, and temperament. Nor does breeder guarantee fitness for breeding. Our pups are sold as pets only and must be spayed or neutered by the age of 6 months, with proof from your vet within 7 days of being fixed. Unless prior arrangements have been made, and agreed upon for breeding.
If you, the buyer uses this animal for breeding without a prior agreement you will be in breach of this contract and will be required to either pay me, the breeder, a sum no less than $900.00, or I will exercise my right to confiscate the puppy/dog. All court costs involved will be paid by you, the buyer. And for the purpose of this contract the Venue for this transaction will take place within the state of Washington.
Puppy is guaranteed to be free of all communicable diseases for a period of 3 days from the date of sale. Please limit exposure to dogs other than the dogs that live in the same household. I also guarantee this puppy to be free of genetic defects that make the puppy not suitable for the purpose of a family pet until the puppy reaches one year of age.
Buyer understands that the following slight genetic defects are not considered serious or life threatening and therefore is not covered: umbilical hernia, un-descended testicle, kidney/bladder infection, under-bite or over-bite, Grade 1 or Grade 2 luxating patella. Buyer understands that replacement option is only valid when health problems are attributed to a heredity problem and not due to accident or contagious and/or other illness. Buyer understands that any and all guarantees expire one year from the date of purchase.
Any future claims made against this breeder, based upon subsequent developments of pathological nature which can be traced to genetic abnormality, shall be evaluated based upon the dog's resulting physical incapacity to continue to serve the purpose for which it was purchased (e.G., family pet). Breed registration papers (if applicable) will be forwarded to Buyer upon breeder's receipt from the Breed Registry.
We offer a Lifetime Return Policy of our dogs. If, for a valid reason, a Buyer can no longer keep the purchased dog, the Seller shall agree whenever possible to take said dog back from the Buyer and try to find it a good home. This does not imply of any return of any monies. This is done on a case by case basis. Pup will be re-homed, and any money returned to buyer will depend on how long the dog/pup is here with us and how much the pup/dog is re-sold for.

*That was her guarantee. I immediately contacted her through her website, and she did reply back. To begin with she wouldn't discuss the situation with me at all, because I was not the immediate purchaser of Annie-mae, my daughter was, and being 20 years old, my daughter was / is a legal adult and is the one responsible for Annie-Mae!
Anyhow, I asked for compensation back on the medical bills from the treatment of the conditions Annie was Diagnosed with. Mrs. Clippanger DECLINED and help on the money, for her contract was clearly visible on the website and my daughter understood the conditions to the terms outlined! I was appauled at this, and to say the least, Mrs. Clippanger, even went as far as to say, we could have returned the puppy back to her and she would have given us a replacement!
A replacement! We couldn't drive a sick, deathly ill puppy with Canine Parvovirus across states or even get her on a flight to return her to this breeder! BUT the point is, WE WOULDN"T have RETURNED her at all! Annie Mae was my daughter's first pet for herself, and yes, my daughter is 20 years old, going to college, a lovely girl. Annie Mae was her heart and still is! I couldn't believe that this breeder sold us puppy that was sick, told us we could have returned said puppy back to her for a replacement, but NO help would be given in the form of monetary compensation for what we had consummed!
We dearly love annie mae, to this day, she is a part of our family greatly soo. We had a good outcome with the virus and intestinal problems she had when we purchased her, that we are greatful for to say the least. Unlike most puppies, Annie Mae survived this ordeal.
The problem I have with this entire situtaion, is breeders are your friends when they want you to purchase their puppies, but as oon as you do, and problems accur, they are complete strangers, or mean people, who honestly do not care about the people buying their puppies! Even in Mrs. Clippanger's guarantee, she states that puppies are guaranteed from DEATH from PARVO for 5 days! Guaranteed from death, but not in the event the puppy survives the viral outbreak!
My family and I have since moved on from this ordeal and a lesson learned. We are Christian people, and believe me nothing short of endless prayers and God's healing hand on Little Annie Mae, saved her life for us! We are a happy family, adn she brings us joy every day. It was a learning experience for us to say the least. We never wished this breeder any bad will, or had harsh feelings toward her at all, we simply informed her of the illness, and asked for vet compensation for all the medical bills we incurred for an illness that Annie Mae had when we purchased her!
This breeder refused help on the matter, but did offer to SELL us some medicine to help with the viral matter, which she said stopped the diarhhea immediately!
People please beware of breeders over the internet, they are selling puppies over the internet for a reason, maybe it's because they can't sell them in their own towns or cities!
You never know about a breeder, and yes, I believe there are good breeders out there in this world, but there are bad ones as well. People will fool you, especially the ones that make you believe they are nice as can be, until you have a problem with a puppy they sold you! My family and I would never give Annie Mae up, she is in our family, but the heart aches and endless nights without sleep could have been avoided completely. We will never know how many other puppies in this world that Mrs. Clippanger has sold with this viral issue or with any other health related problems, and that is honestly none of our business.
I felt compelled to write this report, because yes, I sought legal advice on the matter from a local attorney regarding the vet compensation fees, there was nothing we could do, and the STATE OF WASHINGTON, does NOT regulate it's breeders at all!
My advice, do nto buy from this breeder at all, you will have no RECOURSE on a sick puppy at all, nothing can be done too her or her BUSINESS at all. Sorry I had to post this, but it is my way of letting the general public know to beware of breeder's over the internet! Go to their homes, see the pups in person, see the adults, look at the homes these people live in, whether they have 9 dogs or 3 dogs, or 20 dogs, it will be apparent who is in it for the money instead of for the betterment of the puppies!
