I worked for Cafe Bella for approximately 1 month. My third week working there, I had gotten severly sick with a double kidney infection and a Urinary Tract Infection. I only worked part time for Bella, the owner, Tuesday-Lunch, Friday and Saturday-Lunch and Dinner. I missed 1 day due to this illness. I was put in the hospital. I got out of the hospital and was suppoe to return to work the next day, which would have been Tuesday. I called my co-worker to let him know I would open the store he didn't have to come in until 12:00 noon that day. He informed me that Bella, the owner, had already covered the shift. I called the girl Bella asked to cover for me and she told me Bellla said I no longer worked there.
Rather than listen to heresay, I called Bella. She didn't answer. So, I sent her a text message and right away she replied telling me that I no longer worked there, that I was unreliable. Reminding you, I only missed 1 day out of the 2 weeks I was sick. She proceeded to tell me that my final check would be ready at 2:00pm on 5/9.
On 5/9 I called Bella to let her know I would be coming to return her uniforms and I would like to pick up my check. As I was driving, over halfway there she sent me a text telling me she was not going to give me my check unless I paid an advance back that I borrowed my first week there. The only problem with this is, she sent me a text stating she would be taking the 40.00 out of my paycheck. She told me not to come back there, I was no longer allowed to be there. This is the most unprofessional business I have worked for. I am appaulled with this situation and the way I was treated, when I came to work every day, waited at least 30 min for her to get there to open the door. I stayed late and covered shifts for her also. I was raised with an awesome work ethic.
Please help.
