Through an email ad & phone calls, DirectBuy telemarketers asked if their store could help with any remodeling projects: and/or materials, furniture, cabinets, etc...
Through intense high-pressure sales tactics, we were offered a FREE open-house presentation to their 'by invitation only' exclusive members buying 'Club'. We, as well as many others in the USA & Canada were duped into believing we could save a lot of money by joining their store.
The first problem was they only give a -one day only - option to sign up for membership as they say you won't be invited back for a second chance.
They then made verbal promises that they have cheaper prices on everything under the sun. We signed up using two credit cards with a sinking feeling in the pit of my stomach. The 'closer/presenter' had actually stood between us and the door in order to badger us longer to take their one time opportunity.
The only out is a 3-day cooling off period written on the back of the contract.
My partner thought DirectBuy would help us remodeling & update a project for our little old house.including designer plans and contractor...
Well, the membership alone could have paid for the items we purchased. The designers & contractors fee was extra. Everything is ordered with the member paying upfront, with delivery costs and an 8% handling fee. DirectBuy doesn't refund for damaged items if & when they're received. A member would have to go to the manufacturer for returns...
We really blew it and were scammed out of a lot of money. I only wish I had utilized that 3 days of opportunity to decline but others have posted DB still will do anything to keep that membership fee. Refunds are nigh to impossible to obtain.
We were scammed out of $5,500.00 for a 2 yr contract in which they so generously through the 3rd yr in free. What a laugh.
They prey upon the gullible and ask 'why buy retail when you can get it from us wholesale'? Against my better judgment I fell for their speil, believing they were legit. Now I know the franchise owners make a heck of a lot of money instantly through the binding membership fees..
