Cambridge Who's Who sends out postcard sized fliers to targeted individuals, promising free membership in their professional networking organization.interested people are invited to provide some personal information, sign the flier and send it back to Who's Who. Little does the unsuspecting victim suspects that that signature will be sold by Who's Who to a credit card disputation agaency (Pulse Network in this case) as proof of volunteer application to a paid membership of close to $1000. After Who's Who receives the signed flier, they have one of their marketing peoples, in my case a Mr. Gomez, call the victim, and pressure him/her into giving out a credit card number. During the phone conversation there is no mention made of the facts that 1) additional fees beyond those discussed will be assessed, 2) that the membership fee is nonrefundable and 3) that the free airplane ticket they present as a bonus is in fact a companion airplane ticket. I did not suspect fraud until I googled the company, and came upon tens of complaints about the company's predatory and misleading marketing practices. I then disputed the charge with my Discover credit card. I also returned unopened all correspondence to Cambridge, of which I have proof, and refused to accept any of the trinkets they peddle as valuable membership benefits. My several subsequent conversations with Cambridge's representatives were highly confrontational. I requested a copy of the taped conversation to prove that I was lied to on several accounts, but Cambridge did not respond. Pulse Network an apparent credit card arbitration agencyd that Discover hired, ruled in Cambridge's favor. I suspect that the ruling was not impartial, because Cambridge was informed of the decision 9 days before I was. Discover conformed to Pulse's ruling despite the fact that I wrote to them that I returned all "merchandise" from Cambridge to the vendor. I never heard of Credit card arbitration agencies, so I do not know what to believe. They collectively ripped me off $1000.
