DPV COMPUTER SURPLUS SOLD Bad IBM T20 that was dead on arrival

Bought item on ebay auction. Emailed them before bidding and was told item would boot to BIOS without error codes. That means that item should have had a good LCD, motherboard and functioning keyboard.

I won auction and subsequently discovered that item was totally dead. I emailed them and was told to get an return authorization to send back for repair. I followed their instructions and did so.

After more email inquiries, I heard nothing further. I tried to work with them in an amicable manner by email for over a month. After a period of not hearing anything, I then finally called them by phone about problem. After being put on hold for a protracted period, I finally got an answer.

They stated that their inventory bar code label was not present on item I sent back and that they would not do anything further to rectify the problem.

I replied that I had started to clean up item and was starting to remove numerous unsightly labels. Because the seller had a decent Ebay feedback profile, I presumed the item was OK. I was wrong and subsequently discovered that item was totally dead.

I found the bar code sticker and taped it to to bottom of the t20. If they examined the item they would have seen that the adhesive residue showed where the label was and that the many other labels still left on the t20 are the same as the photo listed in their Ebay ad.

Further, If they had compared the IBM type and serial# they would have seen that it was the item they sold me. Perhaps that was too much work to do. After trying to resolve the issue for over a month and finally finding out that they were going to do nothing, I reluctantly left negative feedback.

I was then rewarded by their statement as a followup "THIEF! Sent us someone else's laptop. Trying to rip us off."

The seller found it easier and cheaper to accuse me of being a thief and doing nothing than doing the right thing. With this seller, it appears that the rule "buyer beware" applies.
