RIPOFF Rep arrived at my house, used the "I'm earning a college trip line", and the magazine never arrived

On November, 25, a Saturday afternoon, my doorbell rang and my 10 year old daughter answered it, along with her two friends. The young man who identified himself as "Kevin Crisher"started into his sales pitch about being part of a group of college guys from our local college, who were trying to earn a trip over winter break.

He said he was the leader in sales and would she (my daughter) or her friends be interested in purchasing a magazine. I arrived at the door in time to hear the pitch regarding "Kevin" being a local college student trying to win a winter break vacation.

My daughter and her friends already had selected a magazine and had the form in her hand to fill it out. I took the form from her and agreed to buy the subscription. "Kevin", asked me if I could buy more than one magazine and I told him no, this one was already too pricey and was more than enough.

I took my check book out to write him a check and he asked me if I "could pay any of it in cash?" I responded"that's a stupid question, I guess you don't want this sale?". He responed that "he collected a portion of the sale as his comission and he wouldn't get any of it until next week"."He was a starving college student and needed the cash". I told him, "the money would be in check form only". He said "that was fine".

He filled out his section of the two part form and handed it back to me. He wrote a phone number on the back of the form in case I changed my mind. The phone number he wrote is a non working number. The form says that the magazine would be delivered in 120-160 days. The check was written on Nov 25th and it was cashed 4 days later by my bank.

I had forgotten about the magazine purchase during the Christmas season and just today, found the receipt as I was cleaning out a basket of receipts. There is no website that I can find to contact this company, and the first google search I found was this website with the same company listed as my receipt. The check was only for $30, but the fact that he took advantage of my good nature that stings.

We are a military family and only recently have we lived off base. I have bought so many subscriptions in the past from kids on base, that I didn't even think twice about helping out a local college student. No I see this scam has gone across the country, beware, it's in New Mexico now!
