I opened my account at Vodacom in 1996/1997 as JG van Niekerk (divorced at that stage) On 4 April 1998 I remarried and become JG Kanes, still with the same ID nr. I’ve tried to change my surname but with no success.in the meanwhile I’ve got divorced again and remarried on 27 Aril 2004. My husband wanted me to change all my accounts to Potgieter and on numerous occasions I’ve tried to change my surname to Potgieter, also with no success. Every time I’ve upgrade during the last 8 years I’ve tried again to change my surname, brought in all the required documentation, but with no success.
This year during my upgrade process in June I was very upset to see that my surname was still on Van Niekerk. I’ve gave them my marriage certificate again.in October when I upgrade my sons phone, also on my name the surname was still not changed. No explanation given to me. I was asked to bring in my Van Niekerk ID (which was long gone – remember is 14 years already since I was Van Niekerk). I brought in my current marriage certificate (again), my 2 divorced certificates, Potgieter ID and Kanes ID. (The customer service clerk was informed by the customer service department) that I could not expect quick service since I have to stand in the row to be helped.
I also gave them a letter to explain my situation and also told them that if this is not solve within 5 working days, I will end all my contracts when it expire. This was been dated on the 10th of November. The customer service in Rustenburg called me to sign a “change of surname form” a few days later. Since then I haven’t heard a word from Vodacom yet.
