I recently attended Casey and Son Horseshoeing School and expected to get the quality education they advertise on their website and when you call them. What I received was a few books, 1- The US Army Cavalry Horseshoeing book, an equine anatomy book and their book that is a brief runthrough of the horse. There is no classroom instruction, no real training and the person that was teaching me was a second week student that didn't have a real grasp on what he was doing.
The "Instructors" or farrier in charge: Link, the owners son and apparent president of the school... interested in learning his new phone, sports illustrated Swimsuit issue and his upcoming trip to Hawaii. Chris... interested in drinking and being friends with everyone. Ronney... Actually did come training and asked questions and discussed the foundered horse and also showed some interest in helping people.
I was there 2 weeks which Ms Casey says isn't long enough to form an opinion but then says that most people say they learned more in 2 weeks than they ever thought they would learn. I learned exactly what I put an effort into learning and did quite a bit of that inbetween the drunk people coming into the bunk house most hights, sometimes until 3am.
Now to justify what I am saying, I have nothing to gain and nothing to lose in making this report. The Veterans Administration paid for me to learn there. I went to learn and found this to be very unprofessional.
