Know which business sold you the job. Window World, Inc. of North Wilkesboro, North Carolina is the franchisor and brand owner. Its About page says it has "over 230 franchise locations nationwide" and describes itself as "Nationally known, locally owned."

The pages on windowworld.com do not say which legal entity signs a customer's sales contract, so read the contract itself: the seller named on it (usually a local company, often called "Window World of [city]") is the business to address first.

Step 1: the local store. Use the Store Locator at windowworld.com to find your store, and keep the signed contract, order confirmation, payments and photos. For product problems, the Support page says to locate the serial number on the window before contacting support.

Cancelling after you sign. The FTC says its Cooling-Off Rule covers "certain sales made at your home, workplace, or dormitory, or at a seller’s temporary location" and that "Your right to cancel for a full refund lasts until midnight of the third business day after the sale." Government actions found in the sources checked

Washington franchise-law consent order (2012). The Washington Department of Financial Institutions, Securities Division, entered a Consent Order against Window World, Inc. on January 17, 2012 (signed by the company on January 9, 2012) under the Franchise Investment Protection Act of Washington. The order states that Window World, Inc. "neither admits nor denies the Findings of Fact and Conclusions of Law." The findings say that between 2006 and 2010 the company offered and sold licenses to operate Window World stores in Washington by oral solicitation to three individuals for initial license fees of $5,000 to $13,000; that licensees received the right to use the trademarks and trade names, marketing support, training and a "Standard Operating Procedures Manual," were required to purchase products from approved sources, and that Window World received a percentage of the approved sources’ sales to licensees. The Division concluded the licenses were franchises sold without registration or an offering circular. The company agreed to cease and desist from offering or selling franchises in violation of those two sections and to pay $1,800 in investigation costs. The order concerns the sale of store licenses to business owners, not consumer purchases.

Illinois Attorney General (2011). A 2016 Seventh Circuit opinion in a franchisee dispute states in a parenthetical: "Earlier in 2011 the Attorney General of Illinois had sued Window World under that Act; the case was settled and a consent decree entered a month after Window World notified Hampton." The "Act" there is the Illinois Franchise Disclosure Act.

EPA docket. The EPA administrative enforcement docket TSCA-07-2011-0012 is titled "Window World," Region 07, Toxic Substances Control Act (penalty), complaint date 04/21/2011, status Closed with disposition "Payment Received." The docket page lists a consent agreement and final order but does not identify which Window World business it names, so it is not attributed to Window World, Inc. here.

The court records found in these sources are mostly business disputes between Window World, Inc. and its store owners, plus one personal-injury suit against a local franchise and the company. None is a consumer class action over windows.

Franchisees v. Window World, Inc. (North Carolina Business Court). Window World of Baton Rouge, LLC v. Window World, Inc. and the consolidated Window World of St. Louis, Inc. action (Wilkes County, Nos. 15 CVS 1 and 15 CVS 2) were brought by many store owners; Window World, Inc. and Window World International, LLC also assert counterclaims. The North Carolina Supreme Court affirmed an interlocutory order on June 11, 2021. On November 10, 2022 (2022 NCBC 72) the court granted the plaintiffs’ request for sanctions against the defendants over the testimony of attorney Beth Vannoy about whether she drafted a franchise disclosure document before June 30, 2011, ordering jury instructions and attorneys’ fees; the same order denied the crime-fraud motion on the application of that exception itself (as moot for communications before June 30, 2011 and otherwise denied). On November 26, 2024 (2024 NCBC 79) the court ruled on cross-motions for summary judgment. It granted the defendants’ motion and dismissed with prejudice, among other claims, the plaintiffs’ fraud claims based on the alleged misrepresentation of franchise law, their claims for a declaration that the licensing agreements are void, their negligent misrepresentation claims and their unfair and deceptive trade practices claims, as well as certain fraud claims based on rebate, best-pricing and 2009 price-increase theories by named plaintiffs. It denied the other motions in part, stating that "all remaining claims, counterclaims, and defenses shall proceed to trial"; an order of December 12, 2024 (2024 NCBC Order 73) clarified and amended that ruling for the Lexington and Jones/Shumate plaintiffs’ breach-of-contract and good-faith claims. These are court rulings on particular claims, not a finding on the whole dispute.

Bendfeldt v. Window World, Inc. Thirteen dissolved Nebraska store corporations and their former owner sued for misrepresentation and breach of contract (W.D.N.C. No. 5:17-cv-00039). The district court granted summary judgment to Window World, Inc. because the plaintiffs had sold their claims in asset purchase agreements (the claim of one closed store, which had no such agreement, was found too small to support federal diversity jurisdiction); the Fourth Circuit affirmed in an unpublished per curiam opinion on May 25, 2023.

Window World of Chicagoland v. Window World, Inc. The Seventh Circuit on January 27, 2016 affirmed dismissal of a former licensee’s claims, noting a 2012 default judgment for Window World, Inc. of more than $100,000 and a permanent injunction against the licensee’s use of the Window World name.

Ohio wrongful-death suit (allegations). A trade magazine reported on April 2, 2025 that families of four people killed in an October 2024 house explosion in Berlin Center, Ohio sued Window World and its local franchise, Window World PennOhio (dba Window World of Youngstown), in the Mahoning County Court of Common Pleas, alleging that siding replacement work damaged a propane line. The same magazine reported on June 2, 2025 that lawyers for Window World PennOhio (dba Window World of Youngstown) had filed that defendant’s answer, which states that it "had no active participation in the work performed" and "is not liable for the damages alleged"; the article says the filing suggests the cause of the damage remains undetermined. The two articles spell the family name "Kocanyar" and "Kocanyer." These are allegations.
