Ring Protect can be cancelled on ring.com; Ring's cancellation policy says subscription cancellations are not refunded unless the law requires it. Ring Protect, returns and hacked accounts: what to do

Cancel Ring Protect. Sign in on ring.com, select Plan on the top menu, select the plan you want to cancel and confirm. Ring's help article explains that "your subscription and add-ons will stop at the end of your billing period and will not renew," and you keep the plan's benefits until then.

More detailShow less

Cancelling also ends access to all recorded videos, so download any video you want to keep first. Subscriptions managed in the Ring Appstore are cancelled there, and past recordings cannot be restored if you resubscribe.

Refunds on subscriptions. The same article states: "Refunds are not available for Ring subscription cancellations unless required by applicable law." To ask for a refund anyway, for example for a charge that continued after you cancelled, contact Ring Customer Support through the Chat with Us or Call Us options on the Contact Us page (ring.com/support/contact-us) and give the account email, the charge date and amount, and the date you cancelled. If a charge is one you did not authorize, or Ring does not correct a charge made after cancellation, your card issuer is the next step. For a credit card, the Fair Credit Billing Act lets you dispute a billing error by written notice to the issuer within 60 days after the first statement that shows it. Debit cards fall under the Electronic Fund Transfer Act instead: report an unauthorized charge to your bank as soon as you see it, and within 60 days after the statement that shows it, to keep your full protection.

Do you need a subscription? A subscription is required to review recorded video on cameras and doorbells; without one you can still view live video and respond to alerts as they happen.

New or Certified Refurbished compatible devices start a free 30-day Ring Protect trial automatically. Ring's plans were sold for a time as Ring Home plans and were renamed Ring Protect plans in 2026, with subscriptions moved to the new plan automatically and the same features, so plan names on older receipts may differ from the ones shown in your account.

Warranty. Ring's US limited warranty, provided by Ring LLC, covers devices bought new or Certified Refurbished from Ring, Amazon or an authorized reseller (not "Used" items or Used Warehouse Deals) against defects in materials and workmanship under ordinary consumer use for one year from the date of original retail purchase. At Ring's option, it repairs the device with new or refurbished parts, replaces it with a new or refurbished equivalent, or refunds all or part of the purchase price; a repaired or replacement device is covered for the rest of the original period or 90 days, whichever is longer.

More detailShow less

The warranty excludes damage from accidents, misuse, neglect, fire, alterations, repairs or parts by third parties, and other external causes. Claims start with Ring Customer Support; if a device has to be shipped, use the original or equally protective packaging and back up and remove any storage media first.

Returning a device. For items bought on Ring.com in the United States, you have 45 days from the ship date of the order to request a full refund, with no charge for returns in that period. Ring emails a prepaid label; refunds are typically processed to the original payment method within 7 to 10 business days and can take up to 30 days.

Ring processes returns only for purchases made through Ring.com: items bought from Amazon or other retailers follow those retailers' return procedures. If a device stops working once the return period has passed, Customer Support can check whether it qualifies for an in-warranty replacement; devices outside the one-year manufacturer's warranty are not eligible for replacement. Purchases shipped outside the US follow different return rules.

If your account was accessed by someone else. Ring's Security page links to its guides on setting up two-step verification, resetting your password and signing in, using Control Center, and what to do after a third-party data breach.

If you cannot get a Sign In Code on a new device, US and Canada customers can recover access with a government-issued ID and a photo of their face through Ring's Account Recovery page (verification is run by a third-party provider named in the help article). Chat and phone support on the Contact Us page are both listed as available 24/7.

Escalating. If Ring does not resolve a billing, refund or warranty problem, you can file a complaint with BBB, which lists Ring LLC in Hawthorne, California; report it to your state attorney general's consumer protection office (USA.gov lists each state's office at usa.gov/state-consumer); and file a report at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

If your bank or card issuer mishandles a dispute over a Ring charge, the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau takes complaints about the bank or issuer at consumerfinance.gov/complaint. For a safety problem with a device, SaferProducts.gov accepts consumer incident reports, and the CPSC has a recall complaint form for a firm that does not honor a recall.

FTC order, refunds and the 2020 doorbell recall

FTC v. Ring LLC (2023). On May 31, 2023 the Federal Trade Commission filed a complaint against Ring LLC in the U.S. District Court for the District of Columbia (Case No. 1:23-cv-1549) together with a stipulated order. The complaint alleges that Ring gave too many employees and contractors access to customers' stored videos, that one employee over several months viewed videos from cameras in intimate spaces, and that Ring was slow to add security protections: it alleges that between January 2019 and March 2020 more than 55,000 U.S. customers suffered credential-stuffing and brute-force attacks that compromised Ring devices, and that Ring made multi-factor authentication available in May 2019. These are the FTC's allegations. In the order, Ring "neither admits nor denies any of the allegations in the Complaint, except as specifically stated in this Order."

Judge Jia M. Cobb signed the order on June 16, 2023. It enters a $5,800,000 judgment in favor of the Commission, requires deletion of certain data, models and work products derived from videos, requires a privacy and data security program, and runs for twenty years on its main conduct provisions. The FTC's press release also says the order requires multi-factor authentication for employee and customer accounts.

Refunds. On April 23, 2024 the FTC announced that it was sending refunds totaling more than $5.6 million, as 117,044 PayPal payments to customers who had certain Ring devices, such as indoor cameras, during the period the FTC identified. The FTC told recipients to redeem the payment within 30 days; the refund administrator named in the release was Rust Consulting, Inc.

Recall of Ring Video Doorbell (2nd Generation). CPSC Recall 21-028, announced November 10, 2020, covered about 350,000 units sold in the U.S. (and about 8,700 in Canada), model 5UM5E5, sold from June 2020 through October 2020 for about $100. According to CPSC, the doorbell's battery can overheat if the wrong screws are used during installation, which poses fire and burn hazards. Only certain serial numbers are included; the serial number is on a label on the back of the doorbell and on the outer packaging, and Ring's recall page linked from the notice checks it. Remedy: stop installing the recalled doorbell and get revised installation instructions from Ring. The notice lists 800-656-1918 (5 a.m. to 9 p.m. PT, seven days a week) as the line for this recall; for other questions, Ring's Contact Us page offers chat and phone support.

How do I cancel Ring Protect?

Sign in on ring.com, select Plan on the top menu, select the plan and confirm. The plan stops at the end of the billing period and keeps its benefits until then. Recorded video is no longer accessible after cancellation, so download what you need first; subscriptions managed in the Ring Appstore are cancelled there.

A charge that continued after you cancelled can be raised with Ring Customer Support by chat or phone from the Contact Us page. A credit card charge you did not authorize can be disputed with your card issuer within 60 days after the statement that first shows it; for a debit card, report it to your bank promptly and within 60 days after the statement that shows it.

How long do I have to return a Ring device?

For purchases made on Ring.com in the United States, 45 days from the ship date for a full refund, with a prepaid return label. Items bought from Amazon or other retailers follow those retailers' return rules, according to Ring's returns page. Ring's help article says you can view live video and respond to alerts without a subscription, but a subscription is required to review recorded video. A free 30-day Ring Protect trial starts automatically on new or Certified Refurbished compatible devices.

What can I do if someone else got into my Ring account?
