Prosper complaints: contacts, payments, disputes and where to report
Official Prosper channels (read on prosper.com on 2026-10-22). The Contact Us page lists, for personal loans, 866-615-6319 (Monday-Friday, 6am-5pm PT) and [email protected]. Payments by regular mail go to Prosper Marketplace Inc., P.O. Box 886081, Los Angeles, CA 90088-6081, with the note "(Do not send correspondence here.)"; the page also lists an overnight-mail lockbox for loan payments (Overnight Mail Lockbox Services, #0136081, Prosper Marketplace, Inc., 3440 Flair Dr., El Monte, CA 91731) and asks borrowers to include their loan number when sending check payments by mail; general correspondence goes to Prosper Funding LLC, 221 Main Street, STE 300, San Francisco, CA 94105. The page says that if you were told your servicer changed to Prosper Funding LLC you can email [email protected]. For the Prosper Card the page lists customer service 800-903-4697 (Monday-Sunday, 5am-7pm PT, [email protected]) a separate line for credit card payments (800-851-0630, Monday-Friday, 6am-5pm PT), and Prosper Card Services, P.O. Box 650078, Dallas, TX 75265-0078 for correspondence. The Contact Us page also carries the banner "Security advisory: Watch out for fraudulent calls impersonating Prosper."
Who is the lender. Prosper's pages and filings say personal loans are made by WebBank (the footer of prosper.com states "All personal loans are made by WebBank"), and that Prosper services them. If a debt has been sold or passed to a collector, that collector is a different business from Prosper and from WebBank.

Loan terms as published. Prosper's personal loan page states that APRs range from 8.99% to 35.99%, terms are between two and six years, and the origination fee is from 1% to 9.99%, with an example of a three-year $10,000 loan at a 17.29% interest rate and an 8.99% origination fee that results in a 24.19% APR and a $9,101.00 payout. The sample promissory note (April 2026 edition) says a late charge is "the greater of $15 or 5.00% of the unpaid portion of the monthly payment", a fee of $15 applies to each returned or failed payment, check payments "may incur an additional processing fee of up to $5.00", and the loan may be prepaid "at any time without penalty". It is governed by federal law and, where state law applies, Utah law, and contains an arbitration agreement with a right to reject it by written notice "within 30 days after the date that this Note was made", mailed to WebBank, c/o Prosper Marketplace, Inc., 221 Main Street, San Francisco, CA 94105, Attention: Legal Department. Read your own signed note; this is the sample form.
If you cannot make a payment. The Help Center article "Can I extend my loan due to an emergency?" says: "If you're worried about making payments toward your loan, we'd like to see how we can help you. Please contact us to talk with a customer support specialist." BBB's profile also points to a "Short-Term Hardship Program" article; the program's terms were not checked for this page, so ask Prosper for the current terms in writing.
If your data was involved in the 2025 incident. Prosper's notice (see the regulator and litigation sections) says affected people are offered two years of complimentary credit monitoring and identity restoration through Experian and gives 866-615-6319 for questions. The notice also says Prosper began sending individual notifications on December 9, 2025, and that the web notice repeats the information in those letters for individuals for whom Prosper has insufficient or out-of-date contact information, so a reader who received no letter can use the web notice and the phone line.
Credit-report errors. The CFPB's page "How do I dispute an error on my credit report?" (last reviewed September 2, 2026) says fixing an error "generally means contacting both the credit reporting company and the company that provided the information", and to start by disputing with Experian, Equifax and/or TransUnion in writing with supporting documents. Suspected identity theft: IdentityTheft.gov.
Outside complaint route. The CFPB accepts complaints about personal loans, credit cards, credit reports and debt collection at consumerfinance.gov/complaint/ and says most companies respond within 15 days. State attorney general and state financial regulator complaint routes are also available. Complaints you file there are your own allegations until a regulator or court decides otherwise.
Prosper complaint record: BBB, CFPB, Trustpilot and our archive
Figures as displayed on 2026-10-22, each from a different source and never combined.
- BBB (profile for Prosper.com, San Francisco; BBB Accredited, rated A+): 423 complaints in the last 3 years and 103 in the last 12 months; the reviews tab shows 1.02 of 5 stars, an average of 137 customer reviews. BBB's raw data gives the file opened 2006-08-30 and accreditation 2012-11-30. A Prosper response dated 09/30/2026 on one complaint says personal loans on the Prosper platform are "originated and issued by" the lender (name redacted by BBB). BBB text is customer-written allegation.
- CFPB Consumer Complaint Database (company 'Prosper Marketplace, Inc.'): 1,602 complaints since 2015-12-05, 342 in the 12 months from 2025-10-23. Among the product labels with the most complaints are credit reporting (308, plus 235 under an older label), credit card (252), personal loan labels (223 and 193) and debt collection (221). Company responses: 1,486 closed with explanation, 109 non-monetary relief, 6 monetary relief, 1 in progress. Complaints are unverified and the database does not show how many were upheld.
- Trustpilot (www.prosper.com): 4.5 stars, 14,783 reviews, 991 in the last 12 months; claimed since August 2015, paid subscription; Trustpilot says the company invites reviews and has not replied to negative reviews, and that it does not fact-check reviews.
The BBB star average and the Trustpilot score measure different groups of reviewers and are not comparable to each other or to the CFPB counts.
Our own archive. usacomplaints.com has two linked posts about Prosper's lending site: a May 2007 post titled "False promises of loans waiting to be reviewed" (a borrower describing repeated identity and income verification before funding) and an August 2008 post "False credit score reporting" (a borrower saying the credit grade shown on the listing was lower than the score obtained from Experian). Both are user allegations. Other archive posts using the word Prosper describe different businesses (for example Prosper Learning and a Texas magazine-sales company) and are not linked here.
Regulator actions involving Prosper
Minnesota Department of Commerce (2024), as reported by BBB. BBB's profile for Prosper.com lists a government action: on March 24, 2024 Prosper Marketplace, Inc. "entered into a consent order (81240/AH)" with the Minnesota Commissioner of Commerce, which "imposed a civil penalty of $30,000" and, per BBB, alleged unlicensed debt collection activity under Minn. Stat. 45.027; BBB says the business "voluntarily agreed to obtain the appropriate licensing" and to cease and desist, and to pay investigation costs. The order itself was not opened for this page; this is BBB's summary as displayed on 2026-10-22.
SEC cease-and-desist order, November 24, 2008. In Securities Act Release No. 8984 (File No. 3-13296) the SEC found that Prosper Marketplace, Inc. (formerly incorporated as JC Capital Solutions, Inc.) offered and sold loan notes, which the SEC treated as securities, "from approximately January 2006 through October 14, 2008" without an effective registration statement, in violation of Sections 5(a) and 5(c) of the Securities Act. Prosper consented "without admitting or denying the findings" (other than the Commission's jurisdiction). The ordering paragraph directs Prosper to "cease and desist from committing or causing any violations and any future violations of Sections 5(a) and (c)"; the paragraph read on 2026-10-22 does not state a monetary penalty. The order concerns the sale of notes to investors, not borrower complaints.
SEC settlement, April 19, 2019 (as described in Prosper's 10-K). Prosper's 2025 Form 10-K says that after an SEC investigation of an April 2017 error in annualized net return figures shown to Note investors (on average about 260 basis points too high), PFL settled on April 19, 2019: the SEC alleged "a negligence-based violation of Section 17(a)(2) of the Securities Act", PFL was ordered to cease and desist, "neither admitted nor denied any wrongdoing" and paid a $3.0 million civil penalty on April 24, 2019. The SEC order itself was not opened; this is Prosper's own description in a filing.
Other regulator actions were not identified in the sources checked on 2026-10-22 (BBB profile, Prosper's 2025 Form 10-K and June 2026 Form 10-Q, and the SEC orders above). State regulator databases were not searched exhaustively.
Prosper 2025 data incident and related lawsuits
2025 cybersecurity incident. Prosper's notice says it discovered unauthorized activity on September 1, 2025, and that "between June and August 2025, data containing personal information was obtained through queries on company databases that store customer and applicant data". Analysis of the affected data concluded on November 26, 2025; the personal information listed includes name, Social Security number, date of birth, bank account number, driver's license number, passport number, tax information and payment card number. The company says there was "no evidence of unauthorized access to customer accounts and funds". Prosper filed a Form 8-K (Item 8.01) on September 17, 2025. The total number of people affected was not found in Prosper's own notice; third-party and state-filing counts vary and are not used here.
Litigation, per Prosper's SEC filings. The 2025 Form 10-K (filed March 26, 2026) and the June 30, 2026 Form 10-Q (filed August 13, 2026) say multiple purported class actions were filed; the federal suits "have been consolidated into one proceeding, captioned In re: Prosper Funding, LLC Data Breach Litigation"; Prosper "is also subject to lawsuits filed in state courts and has received demands for mass and individual arbitrations"; and that the matters are in early stages. The 10-Q says the company has accrued legal and cybersecurity costs related to the incident that are not covered by insurance, and that, being unable to estimate a loss or range of loss, it has not recorded a provision for estimated losses in respect to the incident as of June 30, 2026. These are allegations; no ruling on liability is reported in the filings.
Docket check. Justia's copy of the Northern District of California docket for In Re: Prosper Funding, LLC Data Breach Litigation (case 3:25-cv-07947, filed September 18, 2025, Judge Charles R. Breyer presiding) was opened on 2026-10-23. It shows that on February 13, 2026 the court granted a motion appointing lead plaintiff and lead counsel, and that on February 20, 2026 the court ordered a further plaintiff's action related to and consolidated with the consolidated action. Justia states the docket was last retrieved on August 27, 2026, and the newest entry visible there is dated March 2, 2026, so the docket status after that date was not visible. No ruling on liability appears in the entries read.
Individual suits by borrowers over loan collection or credit reporting were also listed by CourtListener over the years; they were not reviewed and are not described.
Court & Public Records
In re: Prosper Funding, LLC Data Breach Litigation
FiledProsper's Form 10-K (filed March 26, 2026) and Form 10-Q (filed August 13, 2026) say the federal class actions arising from the September 2025 cybersecurity incident "have been consolidated into one proceeding" under this caption. The filings say the matters are early stage and report no ruling on liability; no settlement is reported. Per the Justia docket (opened 2026-10-23; last retrieved by Justia on August 27, 2026), Judge Charles R. Breyer is presiding; on February 13, 2026 the court granted a motion appointing lead plaintiff and lead counsel, and on February 20, 2026 a further action was related to and consolidated with the consolidated action. The newest entry visible is dated March 2, 2026, so later status was not visible; no ruling on liability is shown.
Prosper Marketplace: who runs it and how the loans work
What the company is. Prosper Marketplace, Inc. is a Delaware corporation that, with its wholly owned subsidiary Prosper Funding LLC, runs the Prosper personal-loan marketplace; its 2025 Form 10-K says it "first launched our personal loan lending product in 2006" and that the marketplace facilitated $2.7 billion in originations during 2025 and $30.5 billion since launch. The About page timeline says Prosper launched the first peer-to-peer lending platform in the U.S. in 2005 and "has helped nearly 2.5 million customers" (company statements). The 10-K describes the loans as unsecured, fixed-rate, $2,000 to $50,000, with terms of 24, 36, 48 and 60 months when filed; the company's loan page now states terms of two to six years.
How loans work. Per the 10-K, WebBank is the lender of loans originated through the marketplace; investors buy Notes (Note Channel) or whole loans (Whole Loan Channel), and Prosper services all marketplace loans. Prosper's loans therefore involve three roles: WebBank as lender, Prosper as servicer and marketplace operator, and investors holding the loans or Notes.
Home equity products. Prosper's 2025 Form 10-K says that in December 2025 it made the strategic decision to discontinue offering Home Equity products and to allocate its resources to the Personal Loan and Credit Card products. The About page (read 2026-10-23) still describes home equity loans and lines of credit, with HELOCs added in 2018 and home equity loans in 2022 (company statements). Existing home-equity customers should confirm servicing contacts with Prosper in writing.
Prosper Card. Prosper's Card is "an unsecured credit card issued by Coastal Community Bank, Member FDIC, pursuant to license by Mastercard International" (prosper.com footnote); the 10-K says the program launched in December 2021 in partnership with Coastal.
Leadership and address. The About page names David Kimball as CEO, and the footer gives 221 Main Street, Suite 300, San Francisco, CA 94105. NMLS #111473 for Prosper Marketplace, Inc. appears on prosper.com's licensing text.
Company-supplied credentials. The About page says Prosper has an "A+ rating & Accredited Business with the Better Business Bureau" and an "Excellent rating on Trustpilot"; see the complaint record section for what those profiles display.
