What review sites and the press show

No published complaint reports are currently linked to this profile. Complaints posted on this site from 2008 to 2012 under the name "OnePay" concern Verizon's OneBill billing service and a payment processor, which are different businesses.

BBB. The BBB profile for OnePay, New York, NY, shows the business as not BBB Accredited, with a rating of A+, 904 complaints in the last 3 years, 477 of them in the last 12 months, and 272 customer reviews. BBB marks 805 of the complaints as answered, 98 as resolved and 1 as unresolved, and says it publishes 1 out of every 5 complaints it handles through conciliation. It files the most complaints under product issues (299), service or repair issues (244) and billing issues (227). Several of the complaints displayed there describe accounts restricted with money out of reach, or closed with a balance and no clear reason; one describes a provisional credit past the 10-business-day deadline and another repeated failures linking a bank account. These are the customers' descriptions, and BBB says it does not verify information from third parties. In a May 2025 reply to one closure complaint, One Finance said the closure followed a manual review of activity inconsistent with the account terms and that it could not disclose details.

Trustpilot. The profile shows 4.5 of 5 from 22,748 reviews, 21,424 of them posted in the last 12 months. The profile is claimed by the company; 81% of reviews are 5-star and 9% are 1-star.

ComplaintsBoard. The profile, listed under the legal name One Finance, shows a 2.9 score, 19 reviews and 37 complaints (24 marked resolved); the latest item is dated May 13, 2026.

Apple App Store. The listing from seller One Finance, Inc. shows 4.9 of 5 from 485K ratings. Each site counts differently, so the figures are not added together.

Press. A ProPublica report from March 11, 2024 covers the period when the app still operated as One, before the OnePay name and the current account agreements. It said the CFPB received 89 complaints about One in 2023, its first full year under Walmart control, when One had 1.6 million customers according to an internal company presentation; ProPublica said that was six more than Dave, a neobank with 9.9 million customers, and noted that such comparisons are imperfect. The report quoted current and former customers and employees describing frozen accounts and blocked access to the app from several countries. The company told ProPublica it blocks access from some countries where it sees significant fraud or cybersecurity risk, denied that fraud, support or account problems were ever unusually frequent or had increased since the acquisition, and said the rate at which it freezes or restricts accounts because of fraud "is down by more than 50% since the acquisition of One." ProPublica reported that the company declined to share the data or time frame behind that figure. These are the report's and the company's statements, not findings of a regulator. Current CFPB complaints can be searched by company name in the CFPB's public complaint database (consumerfinance.gov/data-research/consumer-complaints).

What to do with a OnePay account problem

Who to contact. OnePay customer service answers at (855) 830-6200 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Chat is also available 24/7: in the app, open Profile > Help. The customer service page lists no email address.

More detailShow less

OnePay publishes [email protected] for privacy requests and copyright notices; email does not count as reporting a transaction error. Written notices go to One Finance, Inc., P.O. Box 513717, Los Angeles, CA 90051-3717.

Dispute a transaction. In the app, go to Profile > Help, select File a Dispute and follow the prompts through to the final confirmation screen. If the transaction is still pending, wait until it posts before filing. To protect your rights, also report the error by phone at (855) 830-6200 or by mail to the P.O. Box on this page: the deposit agreements say an error can be asserted only those two ways, no later than 60 days after OnePay sent the first statement showing the problem, and the help center ties regulatory protections to errors reported by phone or mail. Give your name and account number, the dollar amount and why you believe it is an error. After a call, OnePay may ask you to confirm in writing within 10 business days.

The agreements say OnePay will generally decide within 10 business days. If it needs more time it may take up to 45 days, or up to 90 days for new accounts, point-of-sale transactions and transactions started outside the U.S., and it will provisionally credit the amount within 10 business days (up to 20 business days for a new account) while it investigates.

More detailShow less

It may withhold that credit if it asked for written confirmation and did not receive it in time. The help center separately says a full investigation can take up to 3-4 months.

Lost card or unauthorized charges. The deposit agreements say to tell OnePay at once if your card, PIN or login is lost or stolen or you see a transfer you did not make. They call phoning the best way to keep losses down. If your card, PIN or login was lost or stolen and you report it within two business days of learning about it, your loss from unauthorized use is limited to $50; after that, it can reach $500 if OnePay can show it could have stopped the use had you told it sooner. Separately, if your statement shows transfers you did not make, report them as soon as possible and no later than 60 days after the statement was made available in the app; money taken after that 60-day point may not be returned if OnePay could have stopped the transfers with an earlier report.

More detailShow less

The agreements say these time limits are extended if a good reason, such as a long trip or a hospital stay, kept you from reporting.

Closed, frozen or limited account. Both deposit agreements (effective October 13, 2026) say: "We may freeze or close your Account, or one or more of your Sections or Pockets, at any time for any reason" and "without prior notice."

More detailShow less

The Terms of Service (effective August 31, 2026) say OnePay may "terminate your user account or suspend, deny or terminate your access" "at any time, with or without notice." If OnePay closes an account, the agreements say it may send the remaining balance, less any amounts you owe, to your linked external account or by check to the most recent address it has on file, so keep both up to date. Practical steps: open your deposit agreement in the app to see which bank (Coastal Community Bank or Lead Bank) holds your account; call or chat with customer service and ask what restriction applies, what information or documents OnePay needs from you, and when and how any balance will be released; save chat transcripts and note the date, time and name or case number of every call; send anything important in writing to the P.O. Box on this page. If the problem is not resolved, file a complaint with the CFPB, naming OnePay (One Finance, Inc.) and the bank on your agreement.

Close your account. Call customer service or open chat (type "Agent" to reach a specialist). Before closing, redeem OnePay Points for cash back if you have at least 25, move any direct deposits, scheduled transfers and bill payments elsewhere, and bring your Checking and Savings balance to zero with no pending transactions.

More detailShow less

A Credit Builder Loan is closed along with the account, and OnePay warns that ending a loan early may affect your credit score. Closing the account also closes a OnePay Wireless plan unless its payments are set up through OnePay Wallet.

How to cancel a plan or a payment. The deposit account has no monthly fee, so there is no membership to cancel; you close the account as on this page. To cancel OnePay Wireless, open the Wireless tile, then Payments, then Cancel plan; service runs to the end of the current payment cycle unless OnePay says otherwise. If you are moving your number to another carrier, do not cancel until the transfer is finished. To stop a regular payment that a company pulls from your account, call (855) 830-6200 at least three business days before it is due; the agreement says OnePay may charge a fee for each stop payment order. Repeat transfers you set up yourself can be cancelled or changed in the app, typically three business days ahead.

Refunds. Refunds for a purchase come from the merchant. The deposit agreements say debit card purchases are not refunded in cash; a merchant's credit is posted back to the account. If you cancelled or returned something and the money has not come back, try the merchant first, then file a dispute in the app using the type "Cancelled or returned but no refund." OnePay Later loans are arranged with Klarna and issued by WebBank. With OnePay Later at Walmart, report a return from the Pay Later tile: choose the support icon, then Report a Return. OnePay credits the loan once Walmart processes the return, and can pause payments due while an item is on its way back. A refund sent to another card or a gift card does not clear the loan, and you still owe the OnePay Later balance.

Credit card questions. The CashRewards and Walmart Spend cards are issued by Synchrony Bank, which handles applications, servicing, payments and support: CashRewards Card (866) 796-1537, Walmart Spend Card (866) 664-0886. Support for these cards is also in the app under Profile > Help > Credit Card. Credit card billing errors follow a different federal rule from the debit and transfer disputes on this page: write to Synchrony at the billing inquiries address on your statement within 60 days after the first statement showing the error was sent to you. A phone call alone does not preserve these rights.

The secured Builder Card is a separate product: its agreement is with Coastal Community Bank or Lead Bank, and OneProgress Services LLC services it, so questions go to OnePay at (855) 830-6200. The agreement says billing errors must be sent in writing to OneProgress Services LLC, P.O. Box 513717, Los Angeles, CA 90051-3717, within 60 days after the error appeared on your statement; if you only call, the bank is not required to investigate.

Calls and texts claiming to be OnePay. OnePay warns that impersonators may call, text or email, and says it "will never ask for payments, passcodes, or sensitive information through unsolicited calls, emails, or texts."

Open the app directly rather than a link you were sent, and report the contact to customer service. Impostors can also be reported to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.

Outside complaint routes. Complaints about a financial product or company can be filed with the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov/complaint. You can also file with BBB at bbb.org and with your state attorney general. The regulator of each bank involved is listed under Licenses and where to report.

Arbitration. The Terms and the deposit agreements contain a binding arbitration clause with a class action waiver. The opt-out window is 30 calendar days: for the Terms, from the date you electronically sign them; for a deposit agreement, from the date you electronically sign it to open your account.

More detailShow less

For long-standing customers that window has usually passed. To opt out in time, call (855) 830-6200 or write to the P.O. Box on this page with your name, mailing and email address, phone number and a signed statement that you want to opt out of arbitration; the Terms also ask for the name of any authorized teen.

Lawsuits and class actions. Because of that clause and waiver, a customer who did not opt out generally brings a claim in individual arbitration rather than a class action in court. Small claims court remains available for individual claims within its limits. Under the deposit agreements, a claim starts with a signed Notice of Dispute mailed to One Finance, Inc., Attn: Notice of Dispute, at the P.O. Box on this page, giving your account number, name, mailing and email address, phone number, the nature and basis of the dispute and the relief you want; OnePay then has 60 days to investigate. Federal court cases can be looked up under the legal name One Finance, Inc. on PACER or CourtListener.

Licenses and where to report

OnePay's licenses page lists One Finance, Inc. (NMLS 2273210) with earned-wage-access licenses in seven states (Indiana, Kansas, Missouri, Nevada, South Carolina, Utah and Wisconsin), a California Financing Law license and a Maryland consumer loan license, and OneProgress Services LLC, formerly One Finance Services LLC (NMLS 2460509), with lender, loan-broker, credit-services and collection licenses in many states. Each license can be looked up by NMLS number on NMLS Consumer Access (nmlsconsumeraccess.org).

More on regulatorsShow less

Federal consumer-finance complaints go to the CFPB. A state license holder can also be reported to that state's financial regulator; the licenses page names, for example, the Kansas Office of the State Bank Commissioner for Kansas earned-wage-access complaints and the Utah Division of Consumer Protection for Utah ones.

A complaint about a bank goes to its federal regulator. FDIC BankFind lists the Federal Reserve for Coastal Community Bank (federalreserveconsumerhelp.gov), the FDIC for Lead Bank and WebBank (ask.fdic.gov/fdicinformationandsupportcenter), and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency for Synchrony Bank (helpwithmybank.gov).

Who runs OnePay and who holds the money

Operator. The deposit agreements say the account "is offered and serviced by One Finance, Inc." on behalf of the bank. The Terms of Service name One Finance, Inc., OneProgress Services LLC, OneProgress Assets LLC, Payment Progress LLC and One Growth Portfolio LLC. OnePay's footer says: "OnePay is a financial technology company, not a bank. Banking services provided by Coastal Community Bank or Lead Bank, Members FDIC." There are two versions of the deposit agreement, one for each bank; both cover the OnePay demand deposit account and the OnePay Debit Card, and the agreement you accepted names the bank that holds your money. Customer service is (855) 830-6200; the corporate office is at 53 Beach Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10013.

CEO and founders. Omer Ismail, a former Goldman Sachs executive hired by Walmart in 2021, is the CEO; coverage of the January 2022 merger announcement said he would lead the combined company. BBB lists Ryan Gomba and Quinten Farmer as co-founders and lists Even among the business's alternate names; PaymentsJournal named Brian Hamilton as a co-founder of One. BBB records the business as incorporated in 2019 and started in 2020; ProPublica says One launched as an independent operation in 2020.

Products. The home page lists mobile banking and high-yield savings, Early Pay, a Builder Card for building credit, the CashRewards credit card, OnePay Later (pay over time), stock investing and crypto, and accounts for teens. The site also offers personal loans through Upgrade, Inc. and ONE@Work (formerly Even), an employer-provided app for getting earned wages early, and the help center covers a prepaid OnePay Wireless phone plan. OnePay Later loans are arranged with Klarna and issued by WebBank. Investment and crypto products are not deposits and are not FDIC-insured. Fees and limits differ by product; deposit account fees are in Appendix A of the deposit agreement and in the app. Appendix A shows $0 monthly and overdraft fees, $3.00 at non-Allpoint ATMs and 1.75% (at least $0.25) for an instant transfer to a linked account.

Walmart. ProPublica reported (March 11, 2024) that a partnership majority-owned by Walmart announced in January 2022 that it would acquire One and Even and merge them under the One brand; the deal closed on March 31, 2022. Digiday (October 21, 2025) says Walmart "took majority ownership" according to CNBC, that the company launched as One and now operates as OnePay, and that OnePay has not publicly disclosed its ownership structure. OnePay's Terms say Wallet functionality may appear on Walmart.com or in the Walmart app as "Powered by OnePay." The partnership that bought One and Even was called Hazel and was also backed by Ribbit Capital. PYMNTS (June 2, 2026) cites a January report that OnePay reached a $4 billion valuation after repurchasing shares from employees.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is OnePay and who operates it?

OnePay says it is "a financial technology company, not a bank." The deposit agreements say accounts are offered and serviced by One Finance, Inc. on behalf of Coastal Community Bank or Lead Bank, Members FDIC. Press reports describe Walmart as its majority owner.

How do I sign in to OnePay?

Open the OnePay app or website and select Sign In. Enter your mobile phone number or choose Sign in with your email, enter the one-time 6-digit verification code sent to your mobile device or email, then enter your account passcode. If you do not have access to your phone number on file, select Sign In With Your Email and enter the one-time passcode sent to that address; if you have not set up a passcode yet, you are asked for the last 4 digits of your SSN or ITIN and then set one. If the verification code does not arrive, tap RESEND in the OnePay app; if it still does not arrive, contact Customer Service at (855) 830-6200, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. You can also sign in with face recognition or fingerprint authentication.

What is OnePay Wallet at Walmart?

OnePay Wallet is a digital wallet that offers rewards at Walmart. It can be used on Walmart.com, in the Walmart app, in Walmart stores and at Walmart fuel stations. A OnePay Debit Card or Builder Card is added to it automatically; other debit or credit cards are added in the OnePay app. To use it on Walmart.com or in the Walmart app, open your Walmart account, go to Settings, then Wallet, find the OnePay Wallet section, tap Sign up in seconds, sign in with the phone number linked to your OnePay account and follow the steps to link a card. In a store or at a fuel station, open the OnePay app, tap the QR code icon at the top right, and scan the QR code shown on the self-checkout or fuel station screen, or on the payment terminal at a staffed register.

What is the OnePay customer service number?

Call (855) 830-6200, available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, or use the 24/7 chat in the app under Profile > Help. CashRewards and Walmart Spend card questions go to Synchrony Bank at the numbers listed on this page.

How do I dispute a OnePay transaction?

In the app go to Profile > Help > File a Dispute and confirm on the final screen. To protect your rights, also report the error by phone at (855) 830-6200 or by mail to One Finance, Inc., P.O. Box 513717, Los Angeles, CA 90051-3717, no later than 60 days after OnePay sent the first statement showing it: the deposit agreements say an error can be asserted only those two ways, and OnePay may ask you to confirm a call in writing within 10 business days. The agreements say OnePay generally decides within 10 business days, or within 45 days (90 for new accounts, point-of-sale and foreign transactions) with a provisional credit, usually within 10 business days. The help center says a full investigation can take up to 3-4 months.

Can OnePay freeze or close my account?

Both deposit agreements say OnePay "may freeze or close your Account" "at any time for any reason," and the Terms allow suspension or termination of access with or without notice. To ask why an account was frozen or closed, what OnePay needs from you and when any balance will be released, contact customer service at (855) 830-6200 or by in-app chat, and keep the chat transcripts and case numbers. If OnePay closes the account, the agreements say the balance, less amounts owed, goes to your linked external account or by check to your address on file. An unresolved problem can be taken to the CFPB.

How do I close my OnePay account?

Contact customer service by phone at (855) 830-6200 or by in-app chat. Before closing, redeem OnePay Points if you have at least 25, move direct deposits, scheduled transfers and bill payments, and bring your balance to zero with nothing pending. A Credit Builder Loan closes with the account, which may affect your credit score.

Who issues the OnePay credit card and who handles its problems?

Synchrony Bank issues the CashRewards and Walmart Spend cards and handles approvals, servicing, payments and support: CashRewards Card (866) 796-1537, Walmart Spend Card (866) 664-0886. Support for these cards is also in the OnePay app under Profile > Help > Credit Card. The secured Builder Card is separate: its agreement is with Coastal Community Bank or Lead Bank, OneProgress Services LLC services it, and questions go to OnePay at (855) 830-6200.

Can I complain to the CFPB about OnePay?

A complaint about a financial product or company, including OnePay, can be submitted to the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov/complaint. It helps to contact OnePay first and keep the dispute or case details. Problems with the CashRewards or Walmart Spend cards go first to Synchrony Bank, the issuer (CashRewards Card (866) 796-1537, Walmart Spend Card (866) 664-0886). Write to the billing inquiries address on your statement within 60 days after the first statement showing the error was sent; a phone call alone does not preserve your billing rights. Builder Card billing errors go in writing to OneProgress Services LLC, P.O. Box 513717, Los Angeles, CA 90051-3717.

What do BBB and Trustpilot show for OnePay?

BBB (not accredited) shows a rating of A+ with 904 complaints in the last 3 years; Trustpilot shows 4.5 of 5 from 22,748 reviews. The two sites measure different things and their figures are not combined.

Does OnePay require arbitration?

The Terms and the deposit agreements contain a binding arbitration provision with a class action waiver. You can opt out only within 30 calendar days of electronically signing the Terms, or of signing the deposit agreement to open your account, so for long-standing customers the window has usually passed. To opt out in time, call (855) 830-6200 or write to One Finance, Inc., P.O. Box 513717, Los Angeles, CA 90051-3717; include your name, mailing and email address, phone number and a signed statement that you want to opt out. Small claims court remains available for individual claims within its limits, and the deposit agreements require a signed, mailed Notice of Dispute and a 60-day period for OnePay to investigate.

Is OnePay a scam?

OnePay is the app of One Finance, Inc., a New York financial technology company with NMLS ID 2273210, whose accounts are held at Coastal Community Bank or Lead Bank, Members FDIC. BBB shows a rating of A+ and 904 complaints in the last 3 years; Trustpilot shows 4.5 of 5 from 22,748 reviews. Complaints displayed on BBB describe restricted or closed accounts and money customers could not reach; these are the customers' descriptions, and BBB marks 805 of the 904 as answered, 98 as resolved and 1 as unresolved. OnePay also warns that impersonators contact people by phone, text and email, so a message claiming to be from OnePay may not be from OnePay.

Is OnePay legit?

One Finance, Inc. runs OnePay and lists its state licenses on its own licenses page, where they can be checked by NMLS number 2273210 on NMLS Consumer Access. Banking services come from Coastal Community Bank or Lead Bank, and OnePay says deposits are FDIC-insured on a pass-through basis up to $250,000 per depositor at the partner bank if certain conditions are met; investment and crypto products are not deposits. Synchrony Bank issues the CashRewards and Walmart Spend credit cards. Press reports describe Walmart as majority owner. The agreements let OnePay freeze or close an account at any time for any reason, and complaints displayed on BBB describe such freezes and closures. ProPublica reported in 2024 on customers and employees describing frozen accounts; the company told ProPublica its fraud-related freeze rate had fallen by more than 50% since the acquisition but declined to share the data or time frame behind the figure.

What is the OnePay customer service phone number and email address?

The customer service phone number is (855) 830-6200, and chat in the app under Profile > Help runs 24/7. OnePay's customer service page lists no email address. It publishes [email protected] for privacy requests and copyright notices, and email does not count as reporting a transaction error. In its Trustpilot replies OnePay asks reviewers to write to [email protected].

Where is the OnePay corporate office?

BBB and Trustpilot list One Finance, Inc. at 53 Beach Street, 2nd Floor, New York, NY 10013. Mail for customer matters, including arbitration opt-outs and transfer errors, goes to P.O. Box 513717, Los Angeles, CA 90051-3717.

Who owns OnePay and who is the CEO?

Press reports describe Walmart as the majority owner. Ribbit Capital backed the partnership that bought One and Even in 2022. Digiday reported in October 2025 that OnePay had not publicly disclosed its ownership structure. The CEO is Omer Ismail, a former Goldman Sachs executive.

How do I cancel OnePay or get a refund?

The deposit account has no monthly fee, so canceling means closing the account by phone or chat. OnePay Wireless is cancelled in the app under Wireless, then Payments, then Cancel plan, and service runs to the end of the payment cycle. Refunds for purchases come from the merchant; if one does not arrive, file a dispute in the app under "Cancelled or returned but no refund" and also report it by phone at (855) 830-6200 or by mail within 60 days, because the deposit agreements recognize only those two ways of asserting an error. For OnePay Later at Walmart, use Report a Return on the Pay Later tile; the loan is credited once Walmart processes the return.

Is there a OnePay lawsuit or class action?

One open federal case names the operator: Melissa Canada v. One Finance, Inc., No. 2:26-cv-09715 (C.D. Cal.), filed August 31, 2026; the public docket does not state the claims. The Terms and deposit agreements send disputes to binding arbitration with a class action waiver, unless the customer opted out within 30 days of signing; small claims court remains available for individual claims. Federal cases can be looked up under the legal name One Finance, Inc. on PACER or CourtListener.
