Johnson & Johnson complaints: which company handles your problem

This page was checked on 2026-10-16. Johnson & Johnson today is not the maker of Tylenol, Band-Aid or Johnson's Baby products. The company's own talc-facts page says: 'Johnson & Johnson does not sell over-the-counter medicines or consumer products, including Johnson's Baby Powder' and that 'Consumer brands including Tylenol, Band-Aid Brand Adhesive Bandages and Johnson's Baby are owned by Kenvue Inc., which has been an independent publicly traded company since August 2023.' Many older complaints in the archive were written when these were Johnson & Johnson consumer products.

  • A consumer product (bandages, baby care, Tylenol and similar): jnj.com's contact page has a link headed 'Looking for information about our former consumer products division?', which goes to Kenvue's contact page (kenvue.com/contact-us).
  • A prescription medicine or a side effect: the Innovative Medicine US contact page lists 'Report an adverse event', 'Report a product quality complaint', 'Product questions' and 'US patient access information'. The J&J withMe program (jnjwithme.com) describes itself as a patient support program with savings options and resources 'at no cost to patients'; its product pages show program numbers such as 877-227-3728 and 855-452-6773 (Monday to Friday, 8:00 AM to 8:00 PM ET, per the pages read), which differ by medicine. The adverse-event option on the Innovative Medicine contact page is a downloadable form; the form itself could not be opened on 2026-10-16 (the site returned a maintenance page), so its contents are not described here.
  • A medical device or surgical product: the MedTech contact page lists a 'Product complaint center' (productcomplaintcenter.jnj.com, which opens with the heading 'Complaint intake') and a link to instructions for use.
  • Contact lenses sold under the Acuvue name: acuvue.com says it 'is published by Johnson & Johnson Vision Care, Inc.'; its terms page says 'call 1-800-843-2020' for wear, care and safety information.
  • Careers, investors, media and suppliers: separate links on the same jnj.com contact page.
  • Government route for a drug or device problem: the FDA's MedWatch program (fda.gov, 'MedWatch: The FDA Safety Information and Adverse Event Reporting Program') takes reports directly, whether or not you have contacted the company; the MedWatch page has a 'Report a Problem' button and lists FDA's number 1-888-INFO-FDA (1-888-463-6332).

The jnj.com, Innovative Medicine and MedTech contact pages, as read on 2026-10-16, show forms and links rather than phone numbers; use the forms on the pages named. For the record of lawsuits and the state settlement see the sections below.

Who Johnson & Johnson is: holding company, two segments, Kenvue split

Johnson & Johnson's Form 10-K for fiscal 2025 (filed 2026-02-11) says it 'was incorporated in the State of New Jersey in 1887', describes the company as 'a holding company, with operating companies conducting business in virtually all countries of the world', and reports approximately 138,200 employees worldwide. Its two segments are Innovative Medicine and MedTech. The SEC record lists the business address as One Johnson & Johnson Plaza, New Brunswick, NJ 08933. The company's heritage page dates its founding to 1886 (the 1887 figure is the incorporation year in the 10-K).

Kenvue. The 10-K records that Kenvue 'completed an initial public offering' on May 8, 2023, and notes the completion of a debt-for-equity exchange of Johnson & Johnson's retained stake in Kenvue (fiscal 2024). Kenvue now reports and operates separately; the consumer brands named in the previous section belong to it. Operating companies named in Johnson & Johnson's filings include Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. (JPI) and DePuy Orthopaedics, Inc. The 10-Q says that in October 2025 the company announced its intention to separate its Orthopaedics business, with a targeted completion within 18 to 24 months after the initial announcement.

Multistate attorneys general talc settlement (announced June 2024) and 2019 FDA recall

On June 10, 2024 the California Attorney General's office announced that, 'as part of a bipartisan coalition of 42 state attorneys general' (Arizona's release says 'Attorney General Kris Mayes and 42 other state attorneys general'), it had secured a '$700 million multistate settlement with Johnson & Johnson (J&J) resolving claims that the company violated consumer protection laws by misrepresenting the safety of its talc-based products.' The release states the claims were that J&J 'failed to disclose if asbestos was present in its talc products and that any asbestos present in the products is harmful and may lead to cancer', that the proposed settlement was 'subject to court approval', and that it 'bars J&J from resuming the manufacture, marketing, promotion, sale, and distribution of talc-based products'. The release also says 'J&J stopped selling these products in the United States and Canada in 2020.'

Johnson & Johnson's own talc-facts page states that 'talc is safe, does not contain asbestos and does not cause cancer' and that the company 'continues to stand behind the safety of talc'. The press release describes claims by the states; this page did not read the stipulated judgment itself or find a docket showing its entry. Arizona's release (June 2024) refers to 'the consent judgment filed in this lawsuit' and says 'The settlement is pending judicial approval'; the company's July 27, 2026 release says it had previously settled 'all State consumer protection claims'. Court entry is not confirmed here.

FDA recall of one lot (2019). The FDA's notice, with a company announcement date of October 18, 2019, says Johnson & Johnson Consumer Inc. (JJCI) was initiating a voluntary recall of Lot #22318RB of Johnson's Baby Powder after an FDA test indicating 'sub-trace levels of chrysotile asbestos contamination (no greater than 0.00002%)'. JJCI said in the notice that it could not confirm whether the sample result was valid. The notice states: 'This recall has been completed and FDA has terminated this recall.'

What the archive and outside sites show (figures as displayed on 2026-10-16)

usacomplaints.com archive. This page links 7 approved entries (2003 to 2012) that name Johnson & Johnson as the subject, and 6 more where the product or unit named is Acuvue (Johnson & Johnson Vision Care) or LifeScan ('A Johnson & Johnson Company' in the entry). Subjects include a baby shampoo described as not tear-free, a leaking pain-relief tube, a baby wash that an author says caused a rash, a changed baby-shampoo formula, an insulin-pump complaint, a hospital-disinfectant chemical warning, one positive customer-service comment, and contact-lens rebate refusals. Archive entries are unverified statements by their authors, not findings by Johnson & Johnson or any regulator, and all are more than ten years old. Several describe products that Kenvue now owns.

Trustpilot. The page for www.jnj.com shows 80 reviews, a 1.8 score and an 'Unclaimed profile' label. Reviewers discuss different products, employers and periods.

Legal proceedings disclosed in the 10-K and 10-Q

Talc. The 10-K's product-liability table lists about 74,360 plaintiffs in the United States with direct claims in pending lawsuits about 'body powders containing talc, primarily JOHNSON'S Baby Powder' as of December 28, 2025; the 10-Q says approximately 76,000 plaintiffs as of June 28, 2026 (the figures count plaintiffs, not findings). The company says that in talc trials it has 'obtained a number of defense verdicts', that there have also been verdicts against it 'many of which have been reversed on appeal', and that it 'continues to believe that it has strong legal grounds to contest all the talc verdicts that it has appealed'. After a corporate restructuring starting in October 2021 and a Chapter 11 case by Red River Talc, LLC in the Southern District of Texas (filed September 2024), the 10-K says the Texas Bankruptcy Court dismissed that case in March 2025, the company 'would not appeal', and it 'returned to the tort system'. The June 2026 10-Q puts the present value of the talc reserve at approximately $3.7 billion and says ovarian cancer and mesothelioma trials are being scheduled in state courts in 2026 and beyond. In the ovarian cancer MDL in the District of New Jersey the 10-Q reports these steps: in January 2026 the Special Master issued a Report and Recommendation on general causation 'excluding certain opinions by plaintiff experts, but also allowing other opinions to proceed'; after May 2026 hearings on specific causation 'the plaintiffs withdrew two of their specific causation experts'; in June 2026 the company filed a Motion to Show Cause; in July 2026 'the court granted the Motion to Show Cause' with a case management conference scheduled for August 2026; and in July 2026 the Special Master recommended granting in part the company's motion on certain asbestos testing methods.

Proposed ovarian talc resolution (announced July 27, 2026). A Form 8-K dated July 27, 2026 says the company 'has reached an agreement for a comprehensive resolution of the ovarian talc litigation with the plaintiff firms leading the federal Multi-District Litigation (MDL) and related state court proceedings, conditioned upon, among other things, the express participation of at least of 95% of the remaining claims', that it 'calls for per claim payments, with a $5.5 billion commitment by the Company', and that the first payment is 'no more than $3 billion to be made in 2027 and no additional payments due before 2028'. The company's press release (Exhibit 99.1) describes the claims as lacking scientific merit and the science as 'junk science'; those are the company's statements, and plaintiffs' claims are allegations. The agreement is a proposal conditioned on participation; this page found no report that the condition has been met or that a court has approved it. The company's third-quarter 2026 earnings release (8-K dated October 13, 2026) says earnings per share reflect 'a one-time special charge for the proposed talc litigation resolution'. The July release also states that before the separation the company 'agreed to retain all the talc-related liabilities and indemnify Kenvue' for costs from U.S. and Canadian litigation, and that it 'made the commercial decision to discontinue talc-based JOHNSON'S Baby Powder globally in 2023'.

Securities class action. The 10-Q describes a February 2018 securities class action in the District of New Jersey alleging failure to disclose alleged asbestos contamination in talc powders; class certification was granted in December 2023, the Third Circuit affirmed in July 2025 and denied rehearing in October 2025; the company filed a petition for certiorari in February 2026, which the Supreme Court denied in April 2026, and the 10-Q says expert discovery is proceeding.

Opioids. The 10-K says the company and Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc. have been named in close to 3,500 lawsuits about opioid marketing (DURAGESIC, NUCYNTA, NUCYNTA ER), 'have litigated two of the cases to judgment and have prevailed in both', and in July 2021 announced finalization of an agreement to settle state and subdivision claims for up to $5.0 billion, about 80 percent of which had been paid by the end of fiscal 2025; roughly 23 state-court cases and 285 cases in the Ohio MDL remained.

Other product claims. The same table lists, among others, 5,190 plaintiffs for pelvic meshes, 680 for the Pinnacle acetabular cup system, 790 for Elmiron and 30 for the DePuy ASR hip systems. The 10-K says DePuy announced a worldwide voluntary recall of the ASR XL and ASR Hip Resurfacing systems in August 2010.

These are company disclosures of allegations and procedural steps, not findings against the company, except where a court order is described.

Is Johnson & Johnson Legitimate?

Johnson & Johnson files annual and quarterly reports with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission (the 10-K for fiscal 2025 was filed on 2026-02-11 and a 10-Q for the quarter ended June 28, 2026 on 2026-07-23), is incorporated in New Jersey, and lists its business address at One Johnson & Johnson Plaza, New Brunswick, NJ 08933. Its contact pages are on jnj.com, with separate pages for Innovative Medicine and MedTech. Complaints and lawsuits described on this page are allegations; the page does not rate or score the company. When a complaint concerns a consumer product such as Tylenol or a Band-Aid bandage, check whether Kenvue, not Johnson & Johnson, is the responsible company.

Arizona's release says 'The settlement is pending judicial approval' and refers to a consent judgment filed in the lawsuit; the company's July 27, 2026 release says it previously settled all State consumer protection claims (attributed).
