Returns, damaged orders and contacts: Fine Art America's own published routes
These are the routes Fine Art America (Pixels.com, LLC) publishes on its own site, checked on 2026-10-11. The company makes every product to order and ships from a manufacturing network, so the rules below apply to purchases on fineartamerica.com.
Returns and refunds. The Return Policy page says: 'If you're not happy with a purchase that you made on FineArtAmerica.com, for any reason, you can return it to us within 30 days of the order date. As soon as it arrives, we'll issue a full refund for the entire purchase price. Please note - Fine Art America does not reimburse the outgoing or return shipping charges unless the return is due to a defect in quality.' The Returns page asks for the e-mail address used on the order and the order number, and the FAQ answer to 'How do I return my purchase / order?' says that after the form is filled out 'you'll then be able to print out a return label which you should use when mailing back your return'.
Damaged orders. The FAQ answer to 'What happens if my order is damaged during shipment?' says: 'If your order arrives damaged, simply contact us using the form on the following page, and we'll get a replacement order into production ASAP', and links to the Contact Us form.
Production and shipping time. The FAQ says products 'require 2 - 8 business days to print and manufacture before shipping, depending on the product', that everything is 'printed and manufactured "on demand"', and that tracking is e-mailed when the order ships. Order status is on the account's Purchases page.
How to reach the company. The Contact Us page has a form with two choices: 'Customer Service (Order Questions Only)' and 'Technical Support'; the page says 'Customer Service is for buyers with questions about new and existing orders. Technical Support is for members with technical questions about using the site.' The site shows two phone numbers: the Return Policy page gives 877-807-5901 ('24 hours per day / 7 days per week'), and an FAQ answer gives 312-238-9009 (9:00 AM - 5:00 PM U.S. Pacific Time) for order questions. The Privacy Policy lists 877-807-5901 as well. Keep order confirmations, photos of any damage or defect, and the dates of each contact.
If the company does not resolve it. You can file a complaint with the BBB through its Fine Art America profile and report a business to the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov (the page was not readable as text in this check, so its wording is not quoted). Paying by card also gives you whatever dispute rights your card issuer offers; ask the issuer how to start one.
For artists and photographers selling on the site. The FAQ says buyers can return orders within 30 days, so payments for a sale are held until that window passes; payments are sent 'on the 15th of each month for all sales that occurred before the 15th of the previous month', by PayPal or by check (U.S. residents only). The Contributor Terms of Use and the copyright and trademark notice procedure are on the Terms of Use page. Artists should use the 'Technical Support' choice on the Contact Us form. The Contributor Terms (opened 2026-10-11) say: 'Fine Art America may cancel a Contributor account at any time for any reason'; 'If You are credited compensation in connection with a sale and Fine Art America thereafter issues a refund to the buyer for that sale, Fine Art America shall have the right to deduct payments credited to Your account'; and 'Fine Art America has no obligation to pursue legal action against any alleged infringer of any of Your rights in and to any Images', while recommending that contributors register their images for copyright protection. Repeat infringers of copyright law 'will be banned' under the same terms.
Who operates Fine Art America (Pixels.com, LLC) and how it describes itself
Who operates the site. The Privacy Policy for FineArtAmerica.com names Pixels.com, LLC as the contact entity for the site, with a Santa Monica, California mailing address and a c/o address at a Louisville, Kentucky law firm (McBrayer, PLLC). A federal court order in The Upper Deck Company v. Pixels.com, LLC (S.D. Cal., March 19, 2026) describes Pixels as an online company selling print-on-demand products through www.pixels.com, www.designerprints.com and www.fineartamerica.com. The Terms of Use, effective June 2, 2020, say the site is governed by Kentucky law and refer to the operator as 'Fine Art America'.
What the company says about itself. Its About page says it was 'founded way back in 2006' (the company's FAQ answer to 'How long has Fine Art America been in business?' says 'in business since 2007'), has been 'profitable since our very first day in business' and has 'never raised money from investors', that its 'entire business was launched by a single entrepreneur', and that artists upload images, set their own prices and the company fulfills each order and sends profits to the artist. These are company statements. The BBB profile lists a founder and chief executive as its principal contact.
Where it is based. The company's own pages are not consistent: the FAQ says 'Our corporate headquarters are in Santa Monica, California', while the footer block of the same FAQ and Contact Us pages is headed 'Corporate Headquarters' and gives a Chicago, Illinois address. The Privacy Policy and the copyright agent notice use a Santa Monica address (2202 Main Street). Trustpilot lists a different Santa Monica street address. This page quotes the addresses as displayed and does not decide which is the registered office; BBB's alert (quoted in the complaint-record section) says it found no Illinois Secretary of State report for the business.
Manufacturing. The company's pages give different figures for its production network: the About page says '16 global production facilities', an FAQ answer says '14 manufacturing facilities located in five different countries', and the Fulfillment Centers page lists locations in the United States, Canada, the United Kingdom, Europe (Boxtel, Netherlands) and Australia. A third FAQ answer ('Where is Fine Art America located?') says: 'Fine Art America has production facilities in North Carolina (US), Georgia (US), California (US), and Glasgow (UK).' The FAQ also says orders ship 'from the manufacturing facility located nearest to your destination address'. This page quotes the statements as published and does not reconcile them.
The documented complaint record: BBB, Trustpilot and archive posts
BBB, as displayed on 2026-10-11. BBB's profile for Fine Art America (Chicago, IL) shows rating F and 'NOT BBB Accredited'. The profile lists '71 total complaints in the last 3 years' and '23 complaints filed in the last 12 months', and its reasons for the rating include 'Failure to respond to 48 complaint(s) filed against business'. The reviews tab shows 1.39 out of 5 from an average of 23 customer reviews. BBB's raw page data gives a file-opened date of 2017-07-24 and no accreditation. A separate BBB listing titled 'Pixels' (Santa Monica) shows rating D+ with one complaint the business did not respond to, and a file-opened date of 2026-06-10; the two listings are not added together.
BBB alerts. The Fine Art America profile carries two alert notices. The first, titled 'Pattern of Complaints' on BBB's page, says as displayed that BBB files indicate complaints concerning: 'Delivery Issues: Consumers allege not receiving their orders or receiving broken items', 'Customer Service Issues: Consumers allege not being able to reach or get a response from customer service' and 'Refund Issues: Consumers allege not getting their refunds'. It says BBB submitted written requests on 07/18/2024, 7/24/2024 and 7/30/2024 and that 'As of 08/06/2024 the business has not responded'. A second alert says BBB investigated the company's business practices in July 2024 after consumer complaints of the same kinds, that 'The business does not have a registered SOS IL report although they are headquartered here per the address found per their website', and that 'The address on file is of an apartment building in Chicago without any business signage.' These are BBB's statements, dated 2024, and the company's response to them was not found on the profile.
Trustpilot, as displayed on 2026-10-11. The page for www.fineartamerica.com shows 4,794 reviews and a score of 3.9, with 375 reviews in the last 12 months and a star split of 80 percent five-star and 14 percent one-star. The profile is claimed (since May 2015) with a paid subscription, the company invites customers to review, and Trustpilot shows that it has not replied to negative reviews. BBB and Trustpilot measure different things and are not combined here.
Complaints in this site's archive. Three approved complaints in the usacomplaints archive name Fine Art America; all date from August and September 2012 (two from August 22-23, 2012, one from September 25, 2012). They are the posters' allegations: one is from a buyer who says a $375 print was returned and the refund was refused; one is from an artist who says staff asked for a re-shot image, the buyer then cancelled the order, and the artist's account was closed after a dispute about image processing; one is from a member who says an account and forum access were restricted after criticizing site policies. None of them describes the company's current return process.
Lawsuits and regulator checks
What was searched. On 2026-10-11 a CourtListener federal-docket search by case caption returned 18 dockets with 'Pixels.com' in the caption (filed 2015 through 2026) and 2 with 'Fine Art America' (a 2017 Northern District of Illinois case terminated the day it was filed and a 2023 Central District of California copyright case terminated 2024-03-21). By their captions and cause-of-action codes, the dockets are overwhelmingly copyright, trademark and right-of-publicity suits brought by artists, photographers, brand owners and individuals against the platform and other sellers over user-uploaded images, plus one DMCA subpoena proceeding; none appeared as a consumer class action. This is a caption search, not a review of every docket, and state-court cases are not covered.
Giovannelli v. Pixels.com, LLC (N.D. Ill., No. 1:22-cv-02160; 7th Cir. No. 25-1185, consolidated with Nos. 24-2869, 24-3103 and 25-1223). A U.S. Army veteran sued Pixels, Walmart, Amazon and other sellers under the Illinois Right of Publicity Act over a poster using a photograph of him. The district courts granted the defendants summary judgment because the claim was time-barred under the Act's one-year limitations period, and on January 22, 2026 the Seventh Circuit affirmed, applying the single-publication rule.
Upper Deck v. Pixels.com, LLC (S.D. Cal., No. 3:24-cv-00923). Upper Deck, a sports memorabilia maker with an exclusive license for Michael Jordan's name, image and likeness, alleges Pixels offered products using Jordan's likeness without authorization. On March 19, 2026 the court granted summary judgment in part and denied it in part for each side: it ruled for Pixels on the trademark dilution claim and on a two-year limitations issue for California right-of-publicity claims, and for Upper Deck on several of Pixels' affirmative defenses, while leaving false advertising, false endorsement, trademark infringement of the Upper Deck Hologram Mark, right of publicity and unfair competition claims to proceed. On Section 230 the order splits: to the extent Upper Deck's California state-law claims concern displaying allegedly illicit images or website content-filtering tools, the court granted Pixels' motion; to the extent they concern 'selling and distributing physical prints', it denied Pixels' motion and granted Upper Deck's. The docket (checked 2026-10-11) also shows a reconsideration filing on March 26, 2026 and an 'Order on Motion for Reconsideration' on May 4, 2026 whose text was not available, rulings on motions in limine on September 9, 2026, pretrial filings and a motion-in-limine hearing on October 9, 2026, and no final judgment.
Kush v. Pixels.com, LLC (D. Nev., No. 2:26-cv-01435). Artist Vladimir Kush and two related companies sued on May 8, 2026 alleging copyright and trademark infringement and related claims over the use of his name and images on multiple websites. Per the docket, an amended complaint was filed July 9, 2026, the court set a settlement conference by order of September 1, 2026 (no settlement is shown on the docket), and motions to dismiss were filed September 14, 2026, with responses due October 12, 2026. The original complaint also pleads Visual Artists Rights Act and Nevada moral-rights claims. These are allegations; no ruling on the merits was identified.
Chrome Hearts LLC v. Pixels.com LLC (C.D. Cal., No. 2:24-cv-04239). A trademark suit filed May 22, 2024. The docket shows an entry 'Settlement' dated June 10, 2025 and termination of the case on June 12, 2025; the settlement terms are not on the public docket.
Regulators. On 2026-10-11 a query of the CPSC recall database by title, product and firm terms 'Fine Art America', 'Pixels.com' and 'fineartamerica' returned no recalls. The FTC legal-library keyword filter did not return filtered results in this check, so an FTC case search was not completed, and state attorney-general enforcement pages were not searched. No regulator action against the company was identified in the sources checked.
Is Fine Art America Legitimate?
Fine Art America is an operating business with an identifiable operator: its Privacy Policy names Pixels.com, LLC, and a federal court order of March 19, 2026 describes Pixels as selling print-on-demand products through fineartamerica.com, pixels.com and designerprints.com. By its own account it has been in business since 2006 (About page) or 2007 (FAQ), publishes a 30-day return policy, a returns form, a contact form and two phone numbers, and has thousands of Trustpilot reviews (3.9 displayed).
The same record includes BBB's F rating with a 2024 alert and a statement that the business had not responded to BBB, a displayed 1.39 out of 5 on BBB reviews, internal inconsistencies about its headquarters on its own pages, and a series of intellectual-property lawsuits from rights holders. Return shipping is not reimbursed under the company's policy unless the return is due to a defect in quality. Weigh these items against the order's value and keep documentation of every contact.
