Bilt complaints, rent payment fees, Bilt Card and how to reach Bilt (checked October 14, 2026)
Bilt Technologies, Inc. sponsors the Bilt Rewards program, in which members earn Bilt Points on rent and mortgage payments, and offers the Bilt Card. Bilt's Terms & Conditions (Last Updated July 14, 2026) say the Program is offered by Bilt and "not by the owner, manager or any third party affiliated with the property" where the member pays rent, and that the agreement is between the member and Bilt.
Paying rent outside a Bilt Alliance property. A help-center article (updated 2026-08-12) lists these options: Bilt Mastercard "with no transaction fee"; bank account via Plaid "with a $1.95 processing fee"; Visa or Mastercard debit card "for a flat fee of $9.95"; Discover or Amex debit card "for a 3% processing fee (minimum $3.00)"; domestic credit card "3% processing fee (minimum $3.00)", earning 1 Bilt Point per $2; international cards "4% processing fee (minimum $3.00)".
Bilt Card 2.0. Bilt's help center says the Bilt Cards (Blue, Obsidian and Palladium) are issued by Column N.A., Member FDIC, and serviced by Cardless Inc. For card questions the help center says to call the customer service number on the back of the card or use the chat function on bilt.com; the page also lists [email protected] and, for upgrades and downgrades, Cardless Support at (888) 533-5576. The page lists annual fees of $0 (Blue), $95 (Obsidian) and $495 (Palladium) and says credit line increases "are not available for Bilt Card 2.0 products".
Wells Fargo card balances. The earlier Wells Fargo Bilt Mastercard could be used through 2/6/26, and the transition page says the last day to make a rent payment through BiltProtect with it was 2/3/26. For a balance left there the page says "you'll need to make payments directly to Wells Fargo by calling 1-833-404-2272 or visiting wellsfargo.com", and that an account kept open "will be converted into a Wells Fargo Autograph® Card".
Cancelling. Terms Section 13: "If you wish to cancel your participation in the Program, you may contact our customer service team at [email protected]." Section 10 says that on cancellation of an account "you will lose all Points immediately". Closing the Bilt Card is a separate step: the Card 2.0 page says to call the number on the back of the card or use chat in your Bilt account, and that closing the card "will stop you from earning rewards with the card, but your existing Bilt Points and Bilt Cash will remain in your account".
Disputing a credit-reporting entry. Terms say rent payments reported to a credit reporting agency "cannot be modified, amended, or cancelled" once reported, and that a member may dispute an entry by emailing [email protected].
Outside routes. A consumer can submit a complaint about a financial product to the CFPB at consumerfinance.gov/complaint and may also contact the state attorney general. The CFPB, BBB and Trustpilot figures are in the complaint-record section.
Regulator and legislative actions: CFPB statement (2026) and Senate letter
CFPB. The CFPB published "The CFPB Works To Ensure Bilt Consumers Are Made Whole" (page dated June 2, 2026). It says the CFPB "has been working to ensure consumers affected by Bilt's transition to a new bank partner are appropriately remedied" and that, "following our discussions and at our direction that Bilt ensures full redress, Bilt notified the CFPB that they proactively reached out to the limited number of potentially-affected customers and offered to reimburse them for any overdraft fees, late fees, or insufficient funds fees related to the transition". The outreach is therefore Bilt's account as relayed by the CFPB. The June text also said Bilt would, by June 4, reimburse fees for "more than 500 newly identified customers". The page's lead text states that "As of September 10, 2026, Bilt had reimbursed all eligible consumers (over 2,000) in the amount of $264,792.71", that "Because Bilt collaborated with the CFPB to remedy these issues voluntarily, there was no need for a lengthy investigation or a public enforcement action", and that "On September 21, 2026, the CFPB notified Bilt that it considered this matter to be closed." The statement describes Bilt's documentation as appearing "to show that it has completed the process and its systems are back on track." It is a CFPB statement, not a court order or consent order, and it contains no finding of liability.
U.S. Senate letter. In a letter dated May 27, 2026 (press release May 28, 2026), Senator Elizabeth Warren, Ranking Member of the Senate Banking Committee, wrote to Ankur Jain, Chief Executive Officer of Bilt Rewards, raising concerns about "significant transaction and payment issues" during the transition between bank partners, including reported rent or mortgage payments that "never reached their landlord or lender" and, in the letter's words, Wells Fargo balances that were reportedly "transferred to the new cards without their authorization". The letter also cites "a 1300% increase in complaints submitted to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) in February alone" and questions Bilt's partnership with Evolve Bank, which the press release describes as "at the center of a major scandal involving nearly $100 million in lost customer funds in 2024". It requests written responses by June 9, 2026. The letter also asks about Bilt 2.0's immediate debiting of rent payments under the Credit CARD Act of 2009 and about Bilt's AI chatbot support. These are the senator's stated concerns and questions; the press release is not a finding by an agency or court. This profile did not locate a published Bilt reply to the letter.

These are company statements. Per Terms Section 10, points "don't expire as long as your Account is open and active" but are lost if an account is closed or becomes inactive for the reasons listed there.
Issuer and servicer for the current cards are named in the help center as Column N.A. and Cardless Inc.; the previous card program was issued through Wells Fargo, according to the transition page. Terms Section 21 requires binding arbitration administered by the American Arbitration Association with venue in New York, New York, and the document's opening notice also refers to a class action waiver.
