Route 66 Auto Salvage
ROUTE 66 Auto Salvage/RIP OFF ARTIST and OWNER

On Saturday, January 21 I took my 17 year old son to the salvage yards located on Broadway in Lower Buckeye. My son owns a 1980 GMC Caballero that he has been fixing up since he purchased it 2 years ago. My son needed an inner fender and reserve tank for his car. After exhaustive searches on the internet, ebay, and craigslist we were unable to find these parts and were recommended the "Pick - A-Part" salvage yard on Broadway and 35th ave. On arriving there my son and I were questioned by the gentleman at Pick-a-part as to what part we needed and proceeded to tell us that he had no parts that would work for my son's car, all the while he was admitting men without questioning them. Another gentleman suggested we go to Route 66 Auto Salvage, but warned us the guy was pricey. We figured it was worth a shot and drove over to that yard. We spoke with the owner and told him the make, model and year of my son's car. The owner would not let us into the lot to view the vehicles he had but said he had exactly the parts we needed and sent us to get cash for payment which was $85 plus tax. Upon returning he took my son's cash and told us to wait another 30 minutes. On the invoice he stated we needed parts for a 73 — 80 Chevy truck. We told him we didn't think that's what we needed but he insisted we did. After the 30 minutes were up we went back and were given an inner fender and reserve tank for a Chevy truck. We told his employee that this looked way to big and the part was metal not plastic. The employee told us if it didn't work to bring it back within 24 hours for a refund or newer part.

On Sunday January 22, after confirming they were the wrong parts we called with no answer so we put the all the parts in our car and drove back down to Route 66 Auto Salvage. The receipt said that contact must be made within 24 hours. The guys website says he is open 7 days a week, however, when we go there, no one was there, the yard was locked up, and there was no answer on the phone. I wrote the gentleman a message and placed it in his mailbox. We then proceeded back to Pick-a-part, with my husband in tow, to look for the correct part. The guy at the window of Pick-a - part was a someone different and he let us in the yard. We found the both parts for $22.00 plus tax, paid for them and went home.

On Monday January 23, I called the owner and he said that we told him that the wrong vehicle. I reiterated that the parts were for a 1980 GMC Caballero and he said "right a Chevy pickup". I said no the vehicle is a G-body and the same as an El Camino. The owner insisted I did not tell him that nor did my son and insinuated that I did not know my vehicles. He said he would give us yard credit and told us to bring the part back on Saturday, January 28. My son did not feel he wanted yard credit and proceeded to call the owner once he was out of school. The owner became belligerent and told my son that he wasn't going to refund his money (which his receipt say's he does refunds, just not in cash) proceeded to call my son very filthy names, and told him to go "F" himself "he wasn't giving him sh*t now." My son mentioned that his grandfather was an attorney and the owner told him "he doesn't give a "sh*t" he has all the money he needs from stupid little a*holes like my son and to give it his best shot.

I have tried to speak with the owner since, by calling on January 24, and January 25, however as soon as the person answers and realizes who I am he hangs up the phone. It is very upsetting to know that this business is unwilling to work with their customers and treated myself (as a mother) and my son as just someone that can be ripped off. I have helped my son re-build his car from a non-working vehicle to a fun daily driver. We know what the cars needs and what parts will work and what parts will not. The owners yellow pages report says he is a member of the BBB and AAA however, after researching he has no known affiliations with either. The link below says he accepts credit cards, but told us he only accepts cash.

I just spoke with the guy again and he told me I was "STUPID" yet he doesn't know what a GMC Caballero is... Dont buy from this fool not only will he overcharge you, but he will degrade you and sell you the wrong parts.
