Complaint / Review
JGY Customs
Stole my money, has my car and has done nothing. Still demanding more $. Beware!

In July I contacted JGY Customs about a project I wanted them to take on. JGY Customs is a Nissan Specialty Store/Shop. I own a 1992 Nissan Sentra SE-R. Jason Garrett Young (dba/JGY Customs) verbally agreed to build my car (engine, interior, brakes, suspension, transmission, etc... A price was never agreed on because I furnished Jason with a list of everything I wanted done on the car and he was supposed to get back to me with a quote. This never happened.

I have done business with Jason in the past and I trusted him, so I shipped my car to him (I live in Utah and Jason is located in Virginia). Per my multiple conversations with Jason, he would start on the car and I would send him payments (via my debit card) of $1200 a month while he was working on the car. He told me that when he had a final price, he would let me know and we could discuss further payment arrangements. I began work as a government contractor, stationed in Iraq in July. My car was to be done (agreed upon by Jason, verbally) by July which is when my contract was up and I would be back in the U.S...

While I was in Iraq, I continued to pay Jason and I also continued to contact him about the progress of my vehicle. Jason was "never available, " "always busy." I came home for my first vacation in November. I visited JGY Customs and Jason had not done a bit of work on my vehicle, nor had he even read through my list of what I wanted done to the vehicle. Keep in mind, he continued to take my payments. He and I talked and I thought we had it all straightened out. He had some questions for me about brands I wanted to use, etc. And what my final vision for the car was.

During the next 8 months, I continued to pay Jason and I contiinued my attempts to contact him. I could never get ahold of him and was always told (by him employees) that Jason was busy and that they were speaking for him. He never had an explanation for why my car had not been worked on, for why he was still taking payments without ever having ordered a part, for why he was not communicating with me, or for why he refused to give me a written quote and a written payment agreement (as requested by my wife and myself several times).
July came and went. I extended my contract in Iraq and came home for a vacation in August. I visited JGY Customs.

At that time, I had given Jason about $12,000 and still nothing had been done to my car and we still had nothing in writing. Jason acted very friendly during that visit and had actually started to order some of the parts for my car. I left there, feeling like he would start on the car and like he was still going to fulfill his end of the bargain (build my car).

Two days after that visit (I was still in the area), Jason began to harass me via email under one of his employees names. There's not enough room here to list the nature of his harassment, but I have the emails. I ended up having to go up there again (a 4 hour drive for me) and straighten the situation out. Jason and I agreed (verbally) that he would finish my car (not to exceed $20,000) by September.

I have paid JGY Customs $15,600 so far and they are saying I owe $23,300 (even though Jason agreed to and knew that I did not authorize anything over $20,000). By Jason's (and one of his employees) own admission, a significant amount of the parts have not even been ordered (that are already included in the total invoice). No where near $15,000 worth of work has even been done on the vehicle. Jason has just sent me a certified letter stating that I have until March to pay the entire invoice amount. He refuses to speak with me. He states in his letter that a policy regarding "abandoned projects" was discussed with me. I made my last payment of $300 to JGY 6 weeks ago.

Until this certified letter, he has refused to put anything in writing (including a payment arrangement). I never agreed (even verbally) to pay the entire amount owed on the project before the project was done. That would be stupid on my part and bad business on his. Even if he'd done $23,000 worth of work/parts to the vehicle, he still has over half of the money.

I began looking into JGY's reputation recently and they have had several complaints brought against them by customers through the better business bureau. It turns out he is not a good business man and I believe I've been duped and that JGY (and Jason Garrett Young specifically) is trying to rob me of my money and my vehicle.

The outcome I would like (if I had the choice) would be simply to cut all ties with JGY and Jason Garrett Young. I want my car back (I've already requested, in writing, that I don't want JGY to touch my vehicle anymore) and I'd like to recoup some of the money I feel they've stolen from me. Please feel free to contact me further if you need anymore details. I have plenty more. Thank you.
