Flying J Truck Stop
Water In Diesel Fuel

On Oct29, I purchased 20.167 gallons of fuel for my 2004 Dodge Sprinter. I drove appx 100 miles and the vehicle idle was ruff. Tow to Dealer in Memphis, Tn, they found from fuel sample it was cloudy milky white. Dealer drained tank changed fuel filter still wouldnt restart. They said I needed new fuel injectors, (5). They installed (total cost $4260.00). Compress check found low compression on # 3. Needs New engine Appx cost $12,000.00 plus installation cost. I contacted Flying J, in Biringham, Al, they put me contact with district Mgr, in refer me to Insurance Dept in Utah. They had me fill out a report and fax it to them. They claim they had no other reports of water in there fuel. After research on the internet I found that all diesel fuels can get contramination in three forms, (1) Emulsified, (water is supended in the fuel (2) Free Water, water in the bottom of storage tank (3) Dissolved Water, where water is dissolved in fuel like sugar in coffee. The warmer the fuel the more the more the water is dissloved. Free Water is poor housekeeping is the primary the largest contributior to Free Water. Water enters bulk fuel tanks via condensation, leakage and thur the fill caps on the ground... With all fuel being pumped I think there must be other cases out there like this one. It seems to me that this can happen and these large companys can just claim to not have any other problems and its not there fault. Please contact me with any help in this matter...
