I received an email from freecreditreport.com that my credit report had been updated and followed the link provided to view it. After logging in, I was immediately taken to the ChildSecure page (Secure your children for $6.95 per child per month). There was no way out of it. I was not able to access my account unless I clicked the "order and continue" button. There was no "No, thank you" button, and no "I'm not interested" button, just an "order and continue" button.
I clicked it, figuring I could opt out on the next page, the ordering page, but no. You must give a credit card number or use the stored credit card information to get past THAT page.
Curious, I did so, wondering if they could actually be as deceitful and manipulative as all that. They were. I was sent to the "register your children" page. I selected the "Register children later" button, but I have no intention of registering any children.
Only then was I given access to my report, and was sent a eMail thanking me for ordering BOTH the Triple access reporting feature AND the ChildSecure Feature for the increased monthly fee. When I emailed a complaint, they sent back a generic eM stating that the best way to resolve it is to contact them by phone.
For their ILLEGAL and manipulative act against the consumer, I did better than calling them, I reported them to complaint, and emailed their scam act to the Los Angeles CBS2 News investigation team.
