I was enrolled in the program back in 02 or 03. The enrollment process was cake and the initial guy that I spoke with such assurances, how could I not enroll and save money?!!! Big mistake. I had to enroll in auto draft with my checking account or have to be burdened by getting a money order prepared and mailed out for them to receive to be able to "Pay the creditors on time".
I don't think they ever made any payments on time but a few. I was young at the time, so I never really paid much attention to the details nor my bank statments. As long as the money was getting withdrawn, I was rest assured that my bills and creditors were getting paid and getting paid on time. I believe there was a service fee of like $7 and $9 per credit card that they "paid". I guess I didn't realize how bad things were getting until 2 years after the fact when I had to change bank accounts due to me moving out of the state and get auto draft from my checking account established to a new account in the new state. I couldn't get through for the longest. I have saved all the emails I sent.
There were 4 different teams and I was on 3 or 4. Everytime I called it was some ghetto person who didn't know jack about my account or anything else. It was like someone just placed anyone to work there without checking out credentials. Then the team leaders always changed, so I assumed the previous leader got fired.
Anyway, to make a long story short, this was a horrible experience for anyone trying to rebuild their credit and relying and trusting in Family Credit Counseling Corp. These people are in it for the money and are using our/your money for their own self enrichment, that is why I believe the payments were late. Also, the initial $200 "deposit" you had to put down, which was to be given back to you once you completed the program, they are collecting interest on. If you add up everyone's $200 in put it into a big pot, that's some money! Especially if your debt is really high and could take up to 15 yrs to pay off. Also, they upped my monthly service charge for one of my credit cards by $2. I didn't realize I was payign this extra $2 fee for over a year. It all adds up and when I spoke to the assistant to the owner, she said it couldn't be refunded.
These people are BS and I advise anybody to really double check and maybe finance their debt some other way. I know I will NEVER trust any type of debt repair again, I would have been better off paying off my own debt on my own with paying the highest interest rate than to have FCCC destroy my credit and lie to me and not answer me on a timely basis. I could go on and on, but this is a WaRnIng!!
