April 28,1997, I co-signed a loan for my friends' daughter to buy a mobile home through Greentree Financial. Her mother also signed the loan, along with her.in 1999 the daughter filed for bankruptcy, kept the mobile home, filed again in and kept the mobile home.
In June or 2004 (I don't have access to records) the home burned to the ground, and the insurance paid the mobile home off. I signed the insurance check along with my "friend" and her daughter. Now, 3 or 4 years later, Greentree has hired a collection agency (or more likely, it is part of the same entity) to harass me for money that I do not owe.
Their representative threatened on the phone to seize assetts and bank accounts, etc., and called back this morning to ask why they haven't heard from our lawyer. My wife and I live on social security, I am 76 years old, and I can"t afford a lawyer without borrowing money.
The insurance (as required by the contract) paid off the loan, but they insist that $4200.00 is owed.
